What a way to start the year! Tom Linsenmeyer in his first start of the year secures victory at the first Major of the Season. He takes home $350 for the win and has earned 900 points as he has climbed into first place in the Race to Hilton Head.
Day 1: The conditions were tough, and the wind was relentless, but the 12:20 tee time appeared to be the lucky draw as the top two players after day 1 were paired together there. Tom Linsenmeyer came out ready, cruising to a front nine 41, but it was Eddie Stephens in his 2021 debut with his A game carding a front nine 40 in the same stretch including a birdie on number 7. Charlie Chaplin and John Downey also came to play on the front nine staying in the thick of things both shooting 41s as well.
Tim Fyfe may have came out the gate slow, but he was full speed ahead on the back 9 shooting a flight low 38 without even carding a bird willing himself into 3rd place after day 1 only two shots back of co-leaders Linsenmeyer and Stephens who flip flopped and shot 41/40 respectively. Tour veteran Bob Curran had arguably the highlight of the day almost jarring an ace on the picturesque 16th hole riverside, on his way to turning in a day one 90. Eddie Stephens, Dennis Bruns, Scott Kalina, and newcomer Sohan Gil all had two birdies on Day 1.
Day 2: The wind was still howling on Sunday as the B Flight took the stage.That did not phase Mark Witmer as he went out and shot a front nine low 41, two shots better than anyone else. Claudia Wciorka found her groove as she did her best to make a run shooting the low score of the day (85), jumping half the field all the way up to 4th place. But it was futile as the final group would not be caught. Linsenmeyer turned in a two day total of 170, two better than Stephens who took second with a 172, and two more better than Chaplin in 3rd with a 174. Wciorka and Curran rounded out the prize cut line in 4th and 5th.
