COURSE CHANGE FROM SENIOR TOUR SCHEDULE AT PINEWILD COUNTRY CLUB
Guys:

The website has had incorrect information regarding our September 24th event at Pinewild CC.  The event will be played on the Magnolia Course - NOT the Holly.

Tour HQ has made the change on the website.

If you are setting up a practice round for Wednesday, make sure you ask for the Magnolia Course.

Sorry for any confusion.

Pinewild Country Club (Magnolia Course)

Originally designed by Gene Hamm, the 18-Hole, par 72 Magnolia Course in Pinehurst opened to rave reviews in 1989, and within two months was ranked as one of the top 50 courses in the entire southeastern United States by Golf Week.

The Magnolia has seen a complete multi-million dollar redesign, to include new greens complexes with Crenshaw Bent Grass, bunkers and cart paths.

The result is a truly fantastic lay-out with emphasis on risk-reward golf.

In an area that boasts numerous award winning courses, the Magnolia remains a local favorite. The course is characterized by vast elevation changes, generous driving areas, and spacious challenging greens. In the summer edition of the 2003 Pinehurst Magazine, the Magnolia was ranked as the fifth best course in the area, by the 43 PGA Golf Professionals.

Locals aren’t the only ones who know a great course when they play it. LPGA players heaped praise on the course when the LPGA’s Pinewild Women’s Championship was contested in 1995.

Every golfer has heard the saying "It's all in your head" or "Golf is 90% mental" or "Golf is the most mentally demanding sport in the world." Yet what do golfers do about it? Well, most often absolutley nothing! Not necessarily because they don't want to, but sometimes golfers actually think the mental game doesn't matter to them!

Click Here to Unlock Your Mind and Shoot Better Golf

EVERY golfer can benefit from increasing their mental toughness and harnessing the full power of thier mind!

Many golfers naively get stuck into thinking that the mental game only matters for elite players or pros who make a living golfing. Nonsense! EVERY golfer needs to use their mind properly.

  • It is your mind that determines how well you learn when taking lessons. (and this training course is packed with accelerated learning techniques that will have you absorbing more from lessons)

  • It is your mind that will allow you to set up to the ball correctly and commit to your swing (or not!).

  • It is your mind that will either stay focused under pressure and get you to make a smooth, fluid stroke when you need to drain an 8 footer for the win, or have you choking like a dog and collapsing like a house of cards when the heat is on!

THE SENIOR AMATEUR GOLF TOUR

SAPONA COUNTRY CLUB TOURNAMENT REVIEW

TOP FIVE SCORES BY FLIGHT

===============================================================

SEDDON FIRES 73 FOR 1ST SENIOR AM TOUR WIN

Lexington, NC
September 17, 2015

Andy Seddon of Apex joined the Senior Amateur Golf Tour in mid-season this year.

Since joining, he has been a regular fixture at every Thursday event.  his break-out day was his 73 at Sapona Ridge
Country Club that beat 12 other Championship Flight players for his first Tour win.

Seddon was the model of consistency, carding only a single birdie.  He simply posted par after par for the victory.

The A Flight took an extra hole to determine a winner as both Charlotte's Steve Romito And Rockingham's John East
finished regulation play with 76s.  Unfortunately there were no dramatic "fireworks" in the playoff, as Romito took home the
first place prize with a simple par on the first extra hole.  It was Romito's first "Tour" win in over 2 years.

The B Flight had a clear-cut winner as Advance's Dawson Strider shot a 78 for a 4 shot win over Durham's Neil Bleau.
Strider, a 15 year veteran of "Tour" play had his "A-game" working today.

Things were not so simple in C Flight competition as three players finished with 84s after their original 18 holes.
Bill Heasley of Denton, Mike Hunter of Greensboro and High Point's Terry Scarlette all headed out for a "sudden death"
playoff.  Once again it was quick work with Heasley winning on the first extra hole.

Next week the Seniors will travel to Pinewild Country Club - The Magnolia Course for their next event.  Limited spots are
available for that tournament.

WILLOW CREEK COUNTRY CLUB TOURNAMENT REVIEW

TOP FIVE SCORES BY FLIGHT

TIGHT RACES IN SR TOUR WILLOW CREEK EVENT

High Point, NC
September 10, 2015

The largest margin of victory in any flight at the Senior Amateur Golf Tour event held at Willow Creek Country Club was 2 strokes.  In one of the flights just a single shot was the difference between 1st and 5th place, while in another it was 2 strokes that separated the top five.

Dan Anthony of Thomasville won the Championship Flight with a 74 - one better than Greensboro's Dave Coolidge.

In the A Flight, both Madison's Wilson Shelton and Chuck Taubersmith of Pinehurst finished with 81s to tie for the top spot.

Tour veteran Mike Gaisbauer of Davidson snapped a long dry spell in the B Flight by posting an 82 that was 2 shots clear of Durham's Neil Bleau.

Kernersville's Donald Brown emerged as C Flight king with a 91 that edged Richard Hartley and Terry Scarlette, both from High Point.  It was Scarlette's first event "on-Tour".

Where Will You Be in the 2015 Season Ending Point Standings Race?

There are only two ways to get to  the year ending National Tournament - win one of the four majors or be one of the Top 15 point earners in your flight.

As you plot your tour schedule, be cognizant of the fact, only the top 15 are guaranteed access.  Usually, most flight races are tight and depends on how well you play and of course how many tour dates you participate in during 2015.

Do you know how many tournaments you will need to play and what place you will need to finish in each tournament to ensure you have your automatic invitation?

Rules Review

It has been suggested that there should be a series of Rules scenarios for you to solve. So begins a series of problems titled What's the Score?

Doc Miller has graciously agreed to allow me to share these with you that he has been sending since July 2009.

I will include one each week. You should try to determine the answer based upon your knowledge of the Rules when ever possible and then use your Rule book to confirm.

There will be no trick questions or hidden information.

Questions from week #322

Al and Ben are opponents in a match. Al has marked and lifted his ball on the green.

A. Without Al’s permission, Ben uses his putter to tap down Al’s ball mark so that it is flush with the green. True or False, Ben is penalized one stroke under R18-3b?

B. Without Al’s permission, Ben uses his putter to tap down Al’s ball mark so that it is flush with the green and in the process, moves the ball mark. True or False, Ben is penalized one stroke.

C. With Al’s permission, Ben uses his putter to tap down Al’s ball mark so that it is flush with the green and in the process, moves the ball mark. True or False, Ben is penalized one stroke.

D. With Al’s permission, Ben uses his putter to tap down Al’s ball mark so that it is flush with the green and in the process, moves the ball mark. True or False, Al is penalized one stroke.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Answers

Generally, the Rules treat a ball marker with nearly the same reverence as a ball in play. If you think of them as one and the same, you will avoid unnecessary penalties. Note I said, nearly the same reverence. The situation covered by these four True False questions all relate to the information found in Decision 20-1/6.5.

A. False. There is no penalty as Rule 18-3b does not apply to ball-markers.

B. True. Now we have a problem as Al’s ball marker no long accurately marks the spot for his ball. In equity, this would be an amalgamation of the principles behind Rules 18-3b and R20-1. Thus a one stroke penalty to Ben for an unauthorized act which resulted in a displaced marker. The ball marker must be replaced.

C. False. Though similar to B, this time Ben has permission and it would be inequitable to penalize the player. The ball marker must be replaced.

D. False. With permission, neither side is penalized.

What was not covered is what if Al tapped down his own marker and it subsequently moved? This is covered by R20-1 as well. If the movement of a ball in play or a ball marker is not directly attributable to either the specific act of marking or replacing, then the player is penalized.

TTour Weather Guidelines

Primarily, we adhere to the same guidelines that the PGA Tour uses:  If Primarily, the course is open, we're going to play.

The only exception to this is that I'll never put any of you in harm's way during an event because of dangerous weather.  (i.e. - lightening or severe cold and wetness).

In other words, I won't let the course "bully" us into playing where an unsafe condition might exist.

Because I arrive at every event at least two hours prior to the start time and I generally have to leave my house at least an hour before that to get to the course, there is no sense calling me just before the event, because I won't be at the office.  The best avenue to take is to call the course if the weather seems threatening.

If you are on the roster for the event, and you do not get a cancellation notice from the course after calling them, you are expected to show up in time for the scheduled shotgun start.
