2012 SENIOR AMATEUR TOUR
THURSDAY, JUNE 21
THE DOMIE CLUB

Dormie Club
One of the new addition on Tour in 2012 is the Dormie Club.  For those of you, who are unaware of this course....it was just  designated in December as the Top 3 New Course in the US by GolfWeek and could be listed as a Top 100 course to play in the U.S. in it's first year (unbelievable).  By the way most golfers have never heard of the Dormie Club but those that have, can't wait to play it.   Why the Accolades?

Since opening in May 2010, the Dormie Club has been receiving rave reviews by amateur and professional players. In fact, Dormie may leap scores of other deserving courses into the coveted Top-100 Course lists for 2012. In just over a year, Dormie is at the top of everybody’s list of must play courses in the “Home of American Golf”.

Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw’s first original layout in the Tar Heel State is just a short drive north of the Village of Pinehurst where they recently completed the restoration of the Pinehurst Resort’s No. 2 course.

There are no slots available but if you are on the waiting list, you will be called if someone drops out. There are a few slots available for Saturday and seniors are welcome tosign-up.

Go here to see why it was a good decision:  dormieclub.net

Bad Lies at U.S. Open Qualifying

Ever wonder why some guys shoot a radio station when trying to qualify for the US Open.  Click photo of the boneheads below to read some hysterical reasons from an article from ESPN.   Hold on boys as some of these are very funny.

Yuck Yuck......

Know Someone Who Has Back or Leg Pain?

Several weeks ago we learned about a new device for treating back pain and sciatica that promised amazing results.

Of course we were very skeptical but did some research, read many testimonials and saw that it was clinically trialed.  We were surprised at the results and wanted to share this with Tour Members.

Several who had been suffering from various types of back pain and sciatica noticed immediate improvement.

If you know someone who would be remotely interested, you need to click on the link below and get them to order right away. Now you can get it in 5 days but no one can confirm that they will have any left by the time you get this newsletter...
  What is it?

A new, safe and easy alternative for back pain sufferers.  It is a unique product that affords users clinic quality spinal decompression wherever and whenever it's needed, with absolutely no inversion.

  • Clinically trialed
  • Unique design with no hanging upside down
  • Simple and easy but it works!
  • Improves flexibility and mobility
  • Hassle free, lightweight and easy to store
  • Comes with 30 days money back guarantee
  • Suits a huge range of body shapes and sizes

The Clinically Trialed Back Pain Solution

One of the testimonial was from Doris, who is now 93, telling  how she struggled with chronic back and leg pain for over 30 years...

She told about all the treatments she tried... multiple surgeries, cortisone injections, chiropractic care, physical therapy, massage - you name it and she likely tried it...

All the "experts" said nothing could be done (which is what many often say after their treatments fail)...

She said she felt that the past 30 years were lost and this is something you will  hear all the time and I'm sure you can relate to... maybe you haven't suffered this long but I'm sure you know the feeling...

Anyway, she went on to say that she has made a "miraculous recovery" (her words) and what really surprised her was how quickly she got relief...

Here's a paragraph from her letter:

"After viewing the 30 second video demonstration I thought that it looked easy enough for someone of my age to use. This was true and after the first time using it I felt quite an improvement. But after two weeks of use now I'm completely pain free."

In addition to decompressing her spine, Doris said she also implemented some of nutritional recommendations,  like cutting way back on wheat, sugar, dairy and grain-fed meats...

This device was designed to decompress the spine, much like an inversion table... and you've probably heard about how one of the biggest causes of back, neck and sciatic pain is excessive compression (or squeezing together) of the discs.

Research has already proven that decompression is one of the most effective treatments for addressing all sorts of back issues...

BATTLEFIELD PROMOTIONS COME WITH LOW SCORES

Graham, NC

June 14, 2012

Rockingham's John East is a "stand-up" guy. While his Tour handicap technically would still allow him to compete in the A Flight, he has volunteered to take on the Championship Flight guys in future events after posting a second place A Flight finish at The Challenge Golf Course. "John has won a few this season, and normally 'cashes' in just about every event", noted Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck, "he'll give those Championship guys all they can handle".

Tour newcomer Randy Jones of Reidsville edged East by a single stroke to take the top spot in the flight. "I expect great things out of Randy, but it's a little too early to 'bump' him up", laughed Hallenbeck.

Chapel Hill's Grady Strickland also will move up a flight as his Tour handicap has gone from B Flight to A Flight range. His 75 topped the B group, nipping Wendell's Bob Dail by a single stroke.

Johnny Adams and David Williams, both from Cary, finished in a dead heat for 1st in the Championship Flight with 73s, which normally would result in an on-the-course sudden death shoot-out. However, Williams "took-off", leaving Adams the winner in walk-over fashion.

Harold Booker of Raleigh continued his hot play this season in the C Flight with an 81 and a comfortable 4 shot win. Dan Harness, also from Raleigh, finished as runner-up.

"It is very possible that there will be more flight promotions from the scores that have been posted recently", explained Hallenbeck. "We keep a Tour Handicap on every player on-Tour, based on their Tour scores. If their numbers range out of their current flights, move-ups will be in order".

The next Senior Tour event is the Dormie Club on June 21. It has been sold-out for some time now.

Rules Review
It has been suggested that there should be  a series of Rules scenarios for you to solve.  So begins a series of problems titled What's the Score?   Doc Miller has graciously agreed to allow me to share these with you that he has been sending since July 2009. I will include one each week.  You should try to determine the answer based upon your knowledge of the Rules when ever possible and then use your Rule book to confirm.   There will be no trick questions or hidden information.

If you do not have a Rules of Golf book handy, go to: usga.org/Rule-Books and-Decisions

What’s the Score? #151

Select all correct answers:

During a stipulated round, a player may borrow a club:

A. Never

B. If he is carrying fewer than 14 clubs.

C. Only from a partner.

D. For measuring a one or two club distance, provided he has one of equivalent or longer length in his bag.

ONLY WHEN THE FORM OF PLAY IS A FACTOR WILL IT BE STATED

If you do not have a Rules of Golf book handy, go to:

http://www.usga.org/Rule-Books/Rules-of-Golf/Rules-and-Decisions/

If you have any questions pertaining to this or previous quizzes, please ask.

Question from Week #150

Concerning the order of play, answer the following:

A. In a match, player A had the honor on the 2nd hole which was halved. On the 3rd hole, Player A’s tee ball was hit into an area where it may be lost or out of bounds and he desires to hit a provisional ball. Who makes the next stroke from the teeing ground, player A or player B?

B. In a fourball stroke play event with handicaps, partners A and B both made a gross 4 on the 15th hole, the #8 handicap hole. Player C picked up and his partner, D, also made a gross 4. A and B hold a 4 and 7 handicaps respectively, and player D is a 9 handicap. Side A/B had the honor on the 15th tee. Who has the honor on the 16th tee, side A/B or side C/D?

Concerning Foursomes play, answer the following:

C. In a foursomes stroke play event (alternate shot format) you hit the tee ball into a fairway bunker. Your partner hit your side’s second stroke close to the OB fence, if you and your partner decide to play a provisional ball, who would play the provisional ball, you or your partner?

D. Continuing with the above scenario, the provisional ball would have to be dropped as near as possible to the spot of the previous stroke. Can you or your partner rake the bunker before dropping a ball? Does it matter which of you drops the ball?

Answers:

In all match play formats with handicaps you always apply handicap strokes to the specific holes where they fall. In individual stroke play, any handicap strokes are applied by the Committee to the gross total for the stipulated round and do not determine order of play. In four-ball stroke play, the Committee applies any handicap strokes to the selected score for each hole after the completion of the round and thus gross scores determine order of play from the teeing ground. For Bogey, Par, or Stableford competitions, the competitor with the lowest net score has the honor at the next teeing ground. (References: Rules 2-1, 6-2, 31-3, 32-1, and 33-5.)

A. Player B should make the next stroke. Rule 10-3 states: “ if a player plays a provisional ball or another ball from the teeing ground, he must do so after his opponent or fellow-competitor has made his first stroke .” In match play if you have the honor and need to hit a provisional ball, but do so out of turn, your opponent can recall the stroke and have you play in the correct order.

B. Side A/B still has the honor. When scoring in Four-Ball Stroke Play, the marker is required to record for each hole the gross score of whichever partner’s score is to count. (R31-3) In determining the net score for the round, the Committee applies handicap strokes to the better ball score selected for each hole (R33-5). Thus gross scores determine who has the honor on any specific teeing ground.

Foursomes play is an alternate shot format with two players on a side playing just one ball between them. Penalty strokes do not alter the order of play between partners.

C. It would be your turn to play and you would hit the provisional ball. If the original ball is found in bounds, the provisional ball would be abandoned and the stroke does not count, thus it would again be your turn to play.

D. Yes you or your partner may rake and smooth the bunker before dropping a ball. (R13-4, Exception 2). Yes, it matters who drops a ball. Normally partners can perform most any task for each other including placing a ball back in play. But only the player who is to make the upcoming stroke can drop a ball (R20-2a). If the wrong partner drops the ball, that error must be corrected (R20-6) or the side would lose the hole in match play or receive a 2-stroke penalty in stroke play. (See penalty statement for Rule 20-2)

Tour Weather Guidelines

Primarily, we adhere to the same guidelines that the PGA Tour uses:  If the course is open, we're going to play.

The only exception to this is that I'll never put any of you in harm's way during an event because of dangerous weather.  (i.e. - lightening or severe cold and wetness).

In other words, I won't let the course "bully" us into playing where an unsafe condition might exist.

Because I arrive at every event at least two hours prior to the start time and I generally have to leave my house at least an hour before that to get to the course, there is no sense calling me just before the event, because I won't be at the office.  The best avenue to take is to call the course if the weather seems threatening.

If you are on the roster for the event, and you do not get a cancellation notice from the course after calling them, you are expected to show up in time for the scheduled shotgun start.

Bruce
