After two long and grueling days on the course, one man bested the rest. Daniel Moore outlasted the field and maybe more importantly the wind, to secure victory in the first Major of the Season. He takes home a cool $300 for the win and has earned 900 points in the Race to Hilton Head.
Day 1: There may have been something special in the air with the first tee time of the day, because that foursome finished the day top 4 and became the last group on Day 2. Daniel Moore jumped out to the early lead on the front 9 shooting an even 35 with a birdie on the first par 3 of the day. Not far off his heels was Danny Brown, the 2020 Season Champion only 3 back through nine with a bird of his own on the 6th hole. Only one back of that (39) was Pat Healy making his 2021 debut. Pat was the only player to make par on the long and difficult par three number seven. Tour veterans Michael Tralewski and Tom Peterson were lurking in the 4th spot each shooting a respectable 41 on the front 9 amidst the difficult conditions.
It was on the back 9 where two players began to separate from the pack as the Dans' went back and fourth with Danny Brown eventually closing the gap shooting a superb 36 with two more birdies for a final total of 74. But not to be outdone was John Gollwitzer, the season opening winner at Lincolnshire CC as he caught fire and shot a 2 under 34 on the back 9 to position himself into 3rd place heading to day 2.
Day 2: The wind decided to mildly cooperate on Sunday and that helped Don Langland come out hot on the front nine, with the low flight front nine score of 36 in his season debut, as the first groups attempted to apply pressure on the leaders. Once again, John Gollwitzer turned it on during the back 9, going one under finishing with a low score of the day 74. But on this day, no one was going to catch Daniel Moore as he shot a front 9 score of 38, and then followed with a very sharp one over back 9 (37). His two day total of 149 gave him breathing room as he finished 4 shots clear of second place, John Gollwitzer, and Danny Brown finished again in the top 3 with a two day total of 155 while making the Prize Purse cut line.
