The Glen Club Recap

The Glen Club Recap:

The action was hot in Glenview even though the morning temperatures were not. After a 45 minute frost delay the sun came out and the players were off. It ended up becoming a beautiful day on an even more beautiful course and after 18 holes (plus a little sudden death playoff) four guys walked away with the Crystal.

In the Championship Flight, different course, same results. Dan Moore is a man who can't be beaten right now winning his second event in a row, and taking the lead in the season long points race. In his season debut, Tom Fox gave Dan all he could handle as he forced a sudden death playoff, but it was there that Dan asserted himself getting a birdie to take the victory. This was one of the tightest tournaments to date, as Michael Tralewski and Greg Brehm (season debut) finshed only one shot back just narrowly missing the playoff. All in all there were 11 players who finished within 6 shots of the leaders.

There is only one question to be asked in the A Flight. Can Gary Granback be beaten? For two straight tournaments the answer has been no. Although it was very close as George Zorich made his season debut and finished only one shot back taking 2nd while Kobus Van der Zel only 2 back finshing in 3rd. It is early in the season but points are at a premium to ensure a top 10 finish and receive an invite to Nationals.

Congratulations go out to the B Flight Champion, Mike Manderino as he blitzed the field on his way to shooting a 76 and taking the victory. This solid performance earned him a promotion to the A Flight as he will test his mettle against new competition at Idlewild CCSteve Bettenhausen made his debut felt as he shot an 80 taking second place while Tour veteran Jerome Olichwier found himself back in the money finishing in third place.

In the C Flight it was a bit of a homecoming for Glen Club member Chris Inglot as he defended home turf and took the victory shooting an 88 for the second time this season. Three shots clear of 2nd place finisher Wally Bromberek who finds himself in the same position for the second tournament in a row but atop the points race for the season. Bob Blair Smith just made the prize cut taking third place while positioning himself into the top 10 in the season long points race.
