Rob Bringardner, Ed Paterniti, Jae Lee, George Ricardo, and Darrel Sturch all won at the Hall of Fame Senior Regional @ World Golf Village.
The Hall of Fame Senior Regional @ World Golf Village brought members from 14 Local Tours across the country to Augustine, Florida. Participants experienced the two legendary courses of Slammer & Squire Course and King & Bear Course. We were fortunate to escape any rain that was forecasted for the area.
Champ Flight saw Rob Bringardner (Jacksonville, FL) capture the top spot with a two-day total of 143 ( -1). As is the case Rob could not rest on his overnight lead as he knew the field was going to come out firing in order to add a little pressure. Stephan Jones (Jacksonville, FL) who was promoted to Champ about 5 tournaments ago, continues to put himself in the hunt and once again carded two strong days of golf. Rob though just kept grinding and kept the chasers at bay. On Sunday it was imperative to have a good short game and Bob's reputation is always consistent around the greens. Congratulations to Bob and thank you to all the Champ Flight guys for making it a point to join us at The World Golf Village.
"A" Flight was fun to watch over the two days as we had a bunched field on top of the leaderboard. Dave Kolster (Jacksonville, FL) fired a blistering 69 on Day One to take the top spot overnight. The problem for Dave is he had a handful of players who also fired great rounds. Robin Gomez (Jacksonville, FL) Ed Paterniti (Jacksonville, FL) and Doug Burford (Coastal GA) all turned in -1 scores on day one and left the course knowing they needed to solid rounds on Day Two to stay in the conversation. Ed and Robin did just that carding even par rounds and needed a playoff to determine the outcome. Ed who has had a great season thus far captured his 4th title. I guess retirement is agreeing with him?? Hats off to Robin as he did not go away easy, and I assure you will lift the crystal in not two distance the future. Great job by all the "A" Flight members over the two days!
"B" Flight saw Robbie Robinson (Orlando Sr Tour Director) card a great round of 75. He too knew what he would be facing on Day Two as those chasing would not go quietly. Mark Goodwin (Arizona), Richie Croy (Coastal GA), Brad Bettin (Jacksonville, FL) and Keith Padgett (Jacksonville, FL) but it was Jae Lee (Orlando, FL) who caught up with Robbie and finally surpassed him with a round of 76. "B' Flight had the most participants at the regional.
C" Flight was also a battle over the two days with many folks carding fine rounds. Terry Westenfeld (Augusta, GA), Christer Unnermark (Jacksonville, FL), and Noel Dawkins (Jacksonville, FL) put themselves right in the mix of things with great day two rounds on what was a tough course for scoring. The final group got to see George Ricardo (Jacksonville, FL) the overnight leader and Paul Stokes (Jacksonville, FL) battle till the end. The two Jax members went toe to toe for 17 holes before George could breathe a little sigh of relief. George punches his ticket to the Tournament of Champions which continues to grow as the season progresses. For those of you who have played with George you know of his driving a golf cart. At least he did not get a ticket for speeding, but his cart mate may have gotten whiplash.
"D" Flight's Darel Sturch (Jacksonville, FL) turned in a round of 84 on Day One probably his best round since becoming a Jax Member, to provide him a nice cushion going into day two. Tim Dial (Jacksonville, FL), Jody Parker (Orlando, FL) and Jim Davis (Jacksonville, FL) all finished above the cutline and they along with Joe Peny (Coastal, GA), Jonathon Luca (Jacksonville, FL plus the Tournament Sponsor) and Mark Simons (Coastal, GA) turned in solid performances, but the cushion Darel had from Day One was enough to earn the top spot!
The 2024 Hall of Fame Regional weekend ended with a nice buffet lunch for all participants, and we started the raffle drawing. Terry Lawson (South FL Golfweek Director) was gracious enough to pull the winning ticket for the Srixon Driver. Terry made Paul Rivers (Jacksonville, FL) day as his name was called. Paul almost bought the exact driver earlier in the week and was glad he got tied up! We were able to raise $200 with the proceeds going to the Jimmy V Foundation.
A big Thank You to all the members for participating in the event. We hope you enjoyed yourself not only on the course but also in meeting some new folks many of which you may see at TPC or the end of the Year National Tournament.
