Beechwood Country Club was a phenomenal place to launch the 2026 Virginia Senior Tour season. From the moment players arrived, the atmosphere felt different. It was not just another round of tournament golf. The place had warmth, charm, and the kind of Southern hospitality that made the day feel more like being welcomed into a special gathering than simply showing up at a golf course.
The staff, ownership, and facilities were all first class. Friendly faces were everywhere, the service was outstanding, and the property itself was beautifully presented. The golf course looked fantastic, but more importantly, it played like a true test. The greens were in tremendous shape—fast, true, and demanding from start to finish.
Beechwood proved quickly that it is not a course you can take lightly. It required precision, punished loose short games, and put real pressure on every chip and putt. Those turtle-back style greens demanded quality approach play and confident touch around the hole. Credit goes to the grounds crew for presenting a course that was both beautiful and challenging in all the right ways.
The weather added another layer of difficulty. The day was brisk, the wind was active, and the golf course played longer than the scorecard suggested. It tested the full field from the opening tee shot to the final putt.
When it was all over, 98 players from the Virginia and Eastern NC Tours had put on a tremendous opening day show. The biggest drama came in A Flight, where two players finished tied and had to return to the 18th hole for a playoff to decide the champion. In the end, five players rose above the field and earned the title of Beechwood CC Champion. If this was any indication of what is ahead, the 2026 season is off to a fantastic start.
