William Carter, Scott Ide, Larry Hyman, John Cullom and Phil Rossman all won the Senior Icebreaker at Sea Pines Resort!
Hilton Head Island and the Sea Pines Resort hosted 108 Senior Amateur Tour members during the first regional tournament of the 2025 season. Members traveled from across the country and represented 21 different Local Tours in the largest opening field in our 27-year history! Players could not have asked for better weather as the backdrop for competition on the Atlanta Dunes and Heron Point courses.
In the Championship Flight, William Carter (Central Carolina) overcame a one-shot deficit and knocked Jay Barnes (Charlotte) from the lead position. Carter’s final scores of 72-70-142 earned him the title and left Barnes in solo second with rounds of 71-72-143. Dean Perziale (Central Carolina) and Wendel Akins (Louisiana) tied for third at 149 followed by Bryan Benton (Jacksonville) with 151.
Scott Ide (Tour Director from Charlotte) led the A Flight wire-to-wire with rounds of 79-76-155 for the victory. Robb Walker (Charleston) finished second at 158 followed by both Keith Breazeale (Louisiana) and Ronnie Averett (Louisiana) with two-day totals of 161. Steve Evans (Costal GA) rounded out the top five with 163.
In the B Flight, Larry Hyman (Augusta) claimed victory with a two-day total of 149. Michael Salik (Jacksonville) finished second at 162 and Kevin Lepage (Charlotte) finished third with 162. Shawn Cacioppo (Central Carolina) was fourth at 172 followed by Michael Anderson (Cincinnati/Dayton) in fifth with 175.
Another close race in the C Flight was determined by one stroke when John Cullom (Augusta) turned in a two-day score of 89-87-176 for the victory. Gene Williams (Augusta) fished in second place based on the card playoff with Bob Fleeger (Indiana-Western, KY) after both shot totals of 177. Scott Holland (Augusta) was fourth at 179 followed by Ronnie Henderson (Coastal GA) in fifth with 180.
In the D Flight, Phil Rossman (Indianapolis) won the crystal by posting a two-day total of 92-93-185. Mitch Green (Charlotte) finished second with 187 followed by Roberto Benavides (Columbus, OH) at 189. David Schmidt grabbed fourth place money on the scorecard playoff over David Kubik (Augusta) fifth and Jody Broussard (Louisiana) sixth when all three tied with scores of 191 for the two days.
