Lamar Adams, Chris Bertaut, Mike Anderson, Jim Ledlow and Bobby Arrighi all won their respective flights at the Heart of Dixie Senior Regional at Pursell Farms!
The small town of Sylacauga, Alabama, along with Pursell Farms, recently welcomed 60 members of the Senior Amateur Tour from across the Nation for the Heart of Dixie Senior Regional, held at the esteemed FarmLinks golf course. Competitors from 10 different local Tours participated, vying for championship titles across five distinct flights. The event was graced with ideal weather conditions, featuring temperatures in the mid-70s and abundant sunshine over two days at Alabama's top-rated public course.
In the Championship Flight, Lamar Adams (Alabama) overcame a one-stroke deficit with an impressive performance. He began the tournament with an exceptional five strokes under par through his first seven holes, taking the lead early on. Adams maintained his advantage throughout the back nine, despite Ed McDugle (Nashville, TN), mounting a strong comeback. Adams completed the weekend with scores of 71-74 for a total of 145, securing the victory. McDugle finished in second place with rounds of 70-76, totaling 146. Randy Beall (Augusta, GA) claimed third with scores of 72-77 for a total of 149, while Ernie Blankenship (Alabama) secured fourth place with 73-77, totaling 150. John Bradshaw from (Nashville, TN) rounded out the top five with scores of 76-75 for a total of 151.
In A Flight, Chris Bertaut (Mississippi) began the second day just one stroke behind Scott Langford (Alabama). Throughout the weekend, Bertaut demonstrated exceptional consistency, shooting scores of 75-76 for a total of 151, which secured him the victory. Although Langford performed well on the first day, he faced some challenges on the second day, ultimately finishing in solo second with a score of 74-80 for a total of 154. Chris Ray (Alabama) made his debut in the Senior Tour event, concluding in third place with scores of 78-81 for a total of 159. Wyatt Shows (Alabama) recorded scores of 79-81 to secure fourth place with a total of 160, while Chuck Phurrough (Alabama) finished fifth with scores of 81-83 for a total of 164.
In Flight B, Mike Anderson (Augusta, GA) made a remarkable comeback on day two, finishing with a score of 80-78 for a total of 158, securing the victory. Jimmy Willis (Augusta, GA) fell short of the win with a score of 77-83, totaling 160, which earned him a solo second place. Bob Whitmire (Alabama) competing in his first tournament, claimed third place with scores of 81-82 for a total of 163. Norman Picker (Augusta, GA) finished fourth with scores of 84-80, totaling 164, while Shae Keyes (Nashville, TN) rounded out the top five with a score of 85-81 for a total of 166.
In the C flight, Jim Ledlow (Alabama) started strong on day one and successfully maintained his lead through day two, ultimately securing victory over Ivan Cotto (Mississippi). Ledlow recorded a score of 80-93 for a total of 173, narrowly outpacing Cotto, who finished with scores of 88-86 for a total of 174. Additionally, Jack Jones (Chicago, IL), Tom Grenell (Southern Virginia) and Paul Kinsella (Alabama) all tied for third place, each finishing with a score of 176: Jones with 94-82, Grenell with 91-85, and Kinsella with 90-86.
The final rounds of the D flight were marked by intense competition as the tournament reached its conclusion. Bobby Arrighi (Alabama) commenced day two in second place and maintained a steady performance throughout the weekend, ultimately securing victory over his fellow competitors, Stoney Wesson (Alabama) and Leon Goodson (Alabama). Arrighi recorded scores of 91-91 for a total of 182, narrowly surpassing Wesson and Goodson, who both finished with a tie at 185, with Wesson shooting 98-87 and Goodson 95-90. Lanny Bergeron (Louisiana) held the lead after the first day but faced difficulties on day two, finishing with scores of 88-98 for a total of 186, placing him in fourth. Michael Boyle (Alabama) concluded the tournament with a score of 95-94, landing in fifth place with a total of 189.
