Powers beats Cochran on the card playoff; Lewis, Carpenter & Hinson all get first victories!

Cowans Ford CC winners!

The 2009 Harris Teeter Senior Tour completed its second tournament of the season with 96 players competing on Wednesday. Thanks to all the staff at Cowanâ€™s Ford CC and the club members for letting this become an official tour stop for many years to come. Championship Flight: (Blue Tees- 6405) The fast greens played havoc for everyone at Cowans Ford on Wednesday. Playing firm and fast ran the Champ flight scores up to 76 tying for first place. Ken Powers and Ken Cochran both completed play at 76 and it was Powers birdie on the number one handicap hole that got him the victory. Finishing just one stroke back at 77 David Watterworth defeated newcomer Noel Brown on the scorecard playoff. A Flight: (Blue Tees - 6405) Terry Lewis broke through for his first victory of the season shooting a smooth 80. Rod Creswell finished only one shot back at 81 for second place and Ted Friel beat out Rex Mills in the playoff for third place. Both Friel and Mills shot 82â€™s. B Flight: (White Tees - 6194) Sam Carpenter fired an 81 on Wednesday en route to a 2 shot victory over Steve Starnes. Starnes finished in second place with 83, Just nipping out 2 other players for second place. Conway Powell and Joe Redmond both played together on Wednesday and also shot the same score of 84. It was Powell however who bested his playing partner on the card for third place money. C Flight: (White Tees - 6194) Larry Hinson of the Columbia Tour finished one shot ahead of tour veteran Don Elsass for the victory at Cowans Ford. Hinson fired an 87 while Elsass shot 88 to capture second place. Last years pointâ€™s winner Sindo Mayor returned to better form on Wednesday finishing third place just 2 shots back at 89. New tour member Tony Schiffer rounded out the top four by shooting 94. All the flights were very tight with one playoff for first place. In every flight the difference from first and second place was just one shot. For full view of the results just go to the web page and click on tournament results.
