John Walters (Champ Flight) Len McAlister (A Flight) James Brannen B Flight) Joe Gendoes (C Flight)
With Augusta just weeks away, Ron Bivins CC of Salisbury Course Superintendent gave all of the Senior Amateur Tour players a taste of what pure fast greens are like. On Wednesday we played the fastest greens we have even seen on tour and the scores reflected it. No one in Champ flight broke 80 but no harsh remarks came from anyone as the course was in immaculate condition. On our next stop back we will have to slow the greens down a bit. Thanks again to all who played in the 97 man field Wednesday and to Randy Padavick’s staff at Salisbury for given us excellent playing conditions. Championship Flight: John Walters was one a the few Champ Flight players to break 40 one the front nine as he turned in 39. On the back side John was even par thru 15 and ran into some trouble at 16, 17 and 18 to finish with 41 and 80 total. Brad Kroll was right on Walters heels until 16 also bit him with double bogey and his bogey at 18 left him in a tie for first also with 80. Going to the card playoff Walters beat out Kroll for first place and his first victory of the 2010 season. A pair of players finished only one shot back at 81, with Tom Cone getting third place and Jeff Rausch last weeks winner 4th. A Flight: The low round of the day came from Len McAlister as he put up three birdies on the front nine en route to a winning score 79. Three players finished at 83 on Wednesday with Jim Gregory besting them all for second place on the card. Cecil Lockley finished 3rd and Ted Friel in 4th place. B Flight: James Brannen played consistent all day and won the B flight with 81. Newcomer Tom Holmes took home second place with 83, while William Greiner finished in third with 84. Bill Maryman and James Herndon both shot 86’s but Maryman beat out Herndon on the card for 4th place. C Flight: Joe Gendoes heard about the tour through other players at his club, now after his first victory on tour Joe is hooked and loves the tour format. Joe won by only 2 shots on Wednesday by firing a nice 88. Don Elsass and Jerry Hoogevenn were right on Joe’s heels but finished tied at 90. Elsass beat out Hoogeveen on the card for the second place finish. Another newcomer John Crofts rounded out the top four spots with 93. The tours next stop will take Pine Lake CC on March 31st a 10:00pm shotgun start. Please email me back (Yes or No) if you wish to get entered. Practice rounds will be only $35 Tuesday-Thursday only for all participants. Show your tour card to get the rate please. Thanks Dennis McCormac 704-844-8264
