The Virginia Senior Tour saved its best drama for last. Pushed back a week from September 30 because of course conditions, the season finale was worth the wait. Lake Chesdin had two jobs on October 7: crown five flight winners and settle five season-long points races. It delivered on both.

CHAMP FLIGHT — Jon Coullier had already locked up the season title, but Mike Mitchell still made the day count. His win moved him from fifth to second in the final standings.

A FLIGHT — Ron Sullins arrived leading the points race and played well, tying for second. Stuart Williams won the flight outright, and the 450 winner's points carried him past Sullins for the season title by 83.75.

B FLIGHT — Steve High did everything he could with a flight win, but Len Winslow's tie for third was enough to hold him off by 191.42.

C FLIGHT — The flight took extra holes to settle. Larry Maitland and Doland Miller were tied after 18, and Maitland won the sudden-death playoff for the flight title. Miller didn't leave empty-handed, though. His runner-up finish pushed him past Goose Donahue for the season crown.

D FLIGHT — Jim O'Neill won the event, but the story was Laurens Platteel. His third-place finish was just enough to edge Al Rodgers for the season title by 10.67 points, the closest race of the year.

One great day can win a tournament. It takes a whole season to win the points race.

A points title isn't decided on one hot round or one lucky bounce. It's earned over months of early tee times and long drives to unfamiliar courses. It means grinding out the days when nothing is falling and still posting a number that counts. Every finish adds up, and every missed opportunity follows you all the way to the final event.

That's what makes these five champions special. They showed up, they stayed consistent, and when the pressure was highest on the final day, they found a way. For three of them, the title wasn't secured until the very last scores were in.
