Wedgefielde
The Charleston Seniors ventured up to Georgetown this Easter Weekend to take on picturesque Wedgefield Country Club. The weather was perfect, and the course was in fine shape.
The Championship Flight got things started with some very special play. Mike Cobb fired a 1 under par and got shut out of the money. Hank Sieling and Mark Ducker fired back nine scores of 32 and 33 respectively. To finish in a tie at 3 under par. It was Hank securing the victory with a solid par on the second playoff hole. Both Mark and Hank mentioned one thing after the round, Both wanted it to be known that Mike Cobb was in the field. As Hank mentioned, that doesn’t happen to often.
The A flight was tightly bunched with five shots separating the whole flight. Jace Gause fired a back nine 37 to win his first event of the season with a very solid round of 76. Jeff Wrona posted another solid round with a 78 to edge out Andy Balao by a shot.
The B flight was little more spread out, but the winner played like all the other winners today and fired a smooth round of 78. Wes Mahaffey has been playing some solid golf and it showed today as he won by three shots(81) over Mike Smith.
The C flight also had some strong play as Dennis Guerriero and Mike Ridgeway were battling neck and neck. They came into the 18th hole tied but both had some difficulty with the tough 18th hole. Mike’s 6 to Dennis’s 7 was the difference as Mike won by one-shot.
The D flight saw our out-of-town friends come in and sweep the top two spots. Joe Singletary was the only one to keep a nine under 50 and that proved fruitful today as he rolled to a 4-shot victory over his buddy Troy Sieck.
Please take a look at the schedule, we have Crowfield coming up on the 16th. That will be followed by a little lunch at my house. Also sign up early for the Paris Island event as we need to vet everyone for access to the base.
