On Thursday September 12th, the Central Carolina Senior Amateur Golf Tour checked into the Forest Oaks CC in Greensboro to compete in the final regular season event of 2024. The weather could not have been more accommodating for the golfers.
In the Champ flight, Trent Gregory turned in an excellent one under par round of 71 to claim victory. It was Trent’s third win of the season after having two early season triumphs. Well done Trent! Lee Everhart carded the runner up score of 73, while Steve Lassiter posted 77 to take third place. John East grabbed fourth place by shooting 78, and Spurling Cook rounded out the top five with a round of 85.
Dan Johnson finished the season on a high note by winning back to back events in the A flight as he posted 76 to edge out the competition by a single shot. Awesome golf Dan! The runner up spot ended in a tie as Chuck Taubersmith, and Bill Phillips from the Charlotte Tour both racked up scores of 77. Fourth place was also a tie, but this time it was a three way tie. Carding rounds of matching 78’s it was Cecil Lockley from the Eastern NC Tour, Kevin Madigan, and Ken Eichele.
Bill Burton from the Southern Virginia Tour made his trip south worthwhile as he recorded a round of 76 in the B flight to win by one. Great golf Bill! Cisco Almodovar placed second with a score of 77, while Tom Carbone from the Charlotte Tour and Bobby Shipwash ended their day T3 with scores of 79. Rounding out the top five list Mike Wolstenholme turned in a round of 81.
In the C flight, Mark Keziah fired a score of 85 to collect his third win of the 2024 season by two shots. Good year Mark! Keith Meeks ended as runner up posting 87, while Steven Wrenn from the Eastern NC Tour placed third by carding 88. Fourth place turned into a four way tie as Mike Groom, Goose Donahue from the Southern Virginia Tour, Joel Johnson from the Charlotte Tour, and Dan Keddie also from the Charlotte Tour all returned rounds of 89.
In the D flight, Richard Pfister ended a great season as he won the final event by three strokes. Way to go Richard! Benton Smith, who also had a very good year, also had a good day with a score of 92 as runner up. Gary Stacy from the Eastern NC Tour placed third posting 93. Kelly Brown, and Jimmy Dollar from the Eastern NC Tour rounded out the top five by ending their day T4 shooting 94’s.
I would like to thank everyone for a great 2024 season. And for those going to the National Finals in Hilton Head, good luck to you all. The 2025 season will be here before you know it.
Stoney Creek Golf Club

Thursday September 5th was the day the Central Carolina Senior Amateur Golf Tour made the trek to Whitsett to tackle Stoney Creek Golf Club. It was a bit cool when the competitors hit the course, but the day warmed up to near perfect golf weather.
In the Champ flight, Spurling Cook put another trophy on his mantel by shooting a round of 81 in victory. Well done Spurling! John East was the runner up carding a score of 86.
The A flight had a sudden victory playoff for the title as Dan Johnson and Tour Director Chuck Smith posted matching scores of 77. The players teed it up on hole 1, and both made par to move on to hole 2. The second hole was a slightly different story as Dan rolled in a putt for par that Chuck wasn’t able to cover. Dan’s win was his first of the season. Awesome golf Dan! Michael Smith grabbed third place with a round of 79, while Ron Brady placed fourth with a score of 80. Chris Wilkes from the Eastern NC Tour rounded out the top five by carding 81.
In the B flight, Dennis Mason collected his first win of the year by firing an excellent round of 76 in the six shot victory. Great golf Dennis! Steven Holley took second place by shooting 82, Wilson Shelton posted 83 for third place, and Michael Broadway placed fourth with a round of 84. Fifth place was a three way tie as Bobby Shipwash, Shane Farrar from the Southern Virginia Tour, and Malcolm Stout all recorded rounds of 85.
Dan Caffelle returned to the winners circle in the C flight as he turned in an excellent round of 83. Way to go Dan! Rocky Briggs took runner up honors by carding an 86, while Greg Martin placed third as he shot a round of 89. In fourth place, James McPherson Sr recorded a round of 92, and Keith Meeks shot a score of 95 to complete the top five list.
In the D flight, Benton Smith collected a four stroke victory as he fired a round of 87. Kudos Benton! Runner up Kelly Brown posted a score of 91. Jimmy Dollar from the Eastern NC Tour, and Richard Pfister ended the day T3 as both players shot 92. And Tour Director Sola Edwards rounded out the top five with her round of 93.
Next up for the Central Carolina Tour is the final event of the season. It will be contested at the former home of the PGA Greensboro Open, Forest Oaks CC on Thursday September 12th. Forest Oaks has been a favorite stop on tour for many years, so sign up today to get on the roster.
Riverwood Golf Course
August 29, 2024
On Thursday, August 29th, the Senior Amateur Tour headed back to Riverwood Golf Course in Clayton, NC. The weather was nice and hot but we made it through and had a great day of golf.
In the Champ flight, John East brought home the first-place trophy with a score of 70. Way to go John! Trent Gregory, another Central North Carolina player came in second with a smooth 73, while Mike Gentry was a close third with a 74. Spurling Cook rounded out the Champ flight with the fourth-place finish.
The A Flight was battling all day for the win but Ken Gray from the Eastern NC tour was able to hang on for the win with an awesome score of 77. Central NC gave him a run for his money with Ken Eichele and Bo Crooks both shooting a 78. This tie was determined with Ken Eichele coming in second place and Bo holding the third place slot.
Shane Farrer drove down to join us from the Southern Virginia tour to take the win for B Flight with a score of 76. Well worth the trip Shane! The Central NC players, Gus Alford took second place and Dennis Mason took third place both shooting a terrific score of 78.
C Flight was a small field this week but Rich Hen took the first place with a score of 81. Keith Meeks and Danny McGovern ended the day both shooting 90. While Steve High came in with a 93.
Benton Smith took another win in D flight with an 85. He won’t be in D flight for long ??. Great day for Benton! Tour director, Sola Edwards Smith placed second with a 91. Richard Pfister placed third with a 93.
It was a warm day but we got it done. Only two tournaments left for the 2024 season. Stoney Creek is scheduled for September 5th which is a 9:00 shotgun start. And, Forest Oaks is September 12th with a 9:00 shotgun start. Sign up today!

Cypress Lakes Golf Course
August 22, 2024
On Thursday August 22nd, the Central Carolina Senior Amateur Golf Tour went east to Hope Mills to tackle Cypress Lakes Golf Course. The weather was mild and absolutely perfect for a round of golf.
In the Champ flight, John East and Spurling Cook went head to head all day long. When the scorecards were turned in, John was on top by two shots with his round of 81. It was his second win of 2024. Well done John! Spurling’s 83 was obviously the runner up score, and not his first this season.
The A flight was headed for a certain playoff as the players teed off on 18 with three competitors tied for the lead. That's when Ron Brady took control. He simply rolled in a putt for birdie to shoot 75 and pull out the single stroke victory. Awesome golf Ron! Ken Eichele grabbed second place honors with a round of 76, while Bill Phillips from the Charlotte Tour placed third with his score of 77. The fourth position was grabbed by Dan Anthony with an 80, while Mike Barbour rounded out the top five list by shooting an 81.
In the B flight, Hollis Peery claimed his first victory of the 2024 season with his round of 77. Kudos Hollis! Adam Hoeh was runner up as he posted a score of 79, while Wilson Shelton carded 80 to take third place. Malcolm Stout took fourth this day as he recorded an 83, as Cisco Almodovar rounded out the B flight top five by shooting 84.
Keith Meeks secured victory by four shots in the B flight by posting a score of 83. It was Keith’s second win this season. Great golf Keith! Daniel Caffelle placed second with a round of 87, while Mike Groom snagged third place in his return to action carding a 91. Ed McNally was the fourth place finisher posting a 96.
In the D flight, Tour Director Sola Edwards got her first win this year after several near misses in a season of excellent golf by firing a round of 95. Congratulations Sola!! Kelly Brown was able to muster a runner up spot with his score of 96, while Marty Carpenter carded 97 for a third place finish. Harold Johnson from the Eastern NC Tour bagged fourth place with a 98, as Benton Smith rounded out the top five shooting by 99.

Tanglewood Golf Course
August 15, 2024
Thursday August 15th was the day the Central Carolina Senior Amateur Golf Tour took on the 1974 PGA Championship Tanglewood Golf Course in Clemmons. The course is in great condition and the weather was perfect for golf.
In the Champ flight, Spurling Cook pulled off a two shot victory with his round of 78 and increased his lead in the season long points race. Well done Spurling! David Cauthen from the Charlotte Tour turned in the runner up score of 80, while John East wrapped up third place by carding 87.
Ron Brady fired a two over par round of 73 in the A flight to take the single shot victory. Good job Ron! TD Chuck Smith grabbed runner up honors with a score of 74. Third place was a three way tie as Chris Wilkes from the Eastern NC Tour, Dan Johnson, and Ken Eichele all posted rounds of 76. Bo Crooks took sixth place by shooting 78.
In the B flight, Michael Broadway eaked out the single stroke victory with a score of 78. It was Michael’s second win of the season. Kudos Mike! Shane Farrar from the Southern Virginia Tour posted the runner up score of 79. Bobby Shipwash, and the Charlotte Tour’s Russell McDonald ended the tournament T3 with matching 80’s. Joseph Wirtz from the Charlotte Tour rounded out the top five list with an 81, while Peter Martin, also from the Charlotte Tour placed sixth with his round of 82.
In the C flight, Rob Heilhausen continues to play well posting a round of 84 for a narrow one shot victory. Great golf Rob! In the runner up position it was a tie as David Teague and Dan Caffelle both posted scores of 85. Keith Meeks carded a score of 88 to claim fourth place, while Patrick Warren rounded top five with his round of 91.
Kelly Brown and Benton Smith were neck and neck all day in the D flight. When the scorecards were tallied at the end of the round, Kelly’s score of 87 gave him a slim one shot margin for the win. The win made Kelly a two time winner on Tour in 2024. Way to go Kelly! Benton’s 88 of course made him runner up for the day, while Tom Kubla and Barry Whitesell turned in T3 scores of 92. Jimmy Dollar from the Eastern NC Tour completed the top five list by shooting a round of 97.
Cypress Lakes GC in Hope Mills is the next challenge in line for the Central Carolina Tour on Thursday August 22nd with a 10am start.
Sapona CC

The Central Carolina Senior Amateur Golf Tour made their way to Lexington on Tuesday August 6th to take on Sapona CC. Rain from Hurricane Debby threatened, but spared the players all but a couple very brief sprinkles.
In the Champ flight, Dale Fuller from the Eastern NC Tour posted an outstanding two under par round of 69 on the par 71 Ellis Maples layout to capture the win. Awesome golf Dale! John East carded a score of 76 to take second place. Chris Wilkes from the Eastern NC Tour placed third by shooting an 81, while Spurling Cook shot 82 to grab fourth place.
Michael Smith fired an excellent score of one over par 72 in the A flight to win by four shots. It was Mike’s first win this season. Great golf Mike! Ron Hockensmith claimed runner up honors with a round of 76, as Charlotte TD Scott Ide finished third by recording a score of 77. Bo Crooks’s round of 79 gave him fourth place while Rick Lazar and TD Chuck Smith ended the day T5 as both players shot scores of 80.
In the B flight, Tom Carbone from the Charlotte Tour made his trip worthwhile by turning in a score of 77 to take the victory by three strokes. Kudos Tom! The runner up position was shared by Gene Jones and Wilson Shelton with matching scores of 80. Fourth and fifth places was also a tie as Steven Williamson from the CharlotteTour and Hollis Peery posted equal scores of 82.
The winner of the C flight could not be determined in the regulation eighteen holes, so an on course Sudden Victory Playoff was required. Greg Martin and Ken White’s scores of 84 forced the trip back to hole one to decide who would claim victory and the crystal. The par five first hole was matched by a pair of birdies, so the match moved to the par four second hole. That’s where Greg rolled in a putt for par on the 2nd green that Ken was unable to match giving Greg his second win of the season. Way to go Greg! Dan Keddie from the Charlotte Tour snagged third place with a round of 87. Keith Meeks placed fourth by posting a score of 88, while David Teague carded 89 to round out the top five list.
In the D flight, Benton Smith’s round of 88 made him the victor by a slim single shot. Well done Benton! Kelly Brown recorded a round of 89 to capture the runner up spot, while Tom Kubla came in third by shooting 92. TD Sola Edwards and Barry Whitesell completed competition T4 as they both reported rounds of 97.
Next up for the Central Carolina Tour is the fabulous Tanglewood Park Championship Course, home of the 1974 PGA Championship. So, come to Clemmons on Thursday August 15th and play a great course where the greatest golfers in the world strolled the fairways in search of the Wanamaker Trophy.
"Sandhill's Regional"

June 24 & 25, 2024
The Sandhills Regional Tournament was contested on Monday June 24th at the Talamore Golf Resort and Tuesday June 25th at the Mid South Club in Southern Pines. Two great courses and very warm weather greeted the contestants.
In the Champ flight, William Carter fired a two under par 69 on the 71 par layout on day one and followed it up with a one under par 70 on day two for a three under par 139 total to cruise to an eight shot victory. Steve French from the Charlotte NC Tour shot 71-76-147 to finish second, while Jamie Sosnowski from the Eastern NC Tour carded 75-74-150 in the top three finish. In fourth place it was Dean Parziale (Central Carolina) with scores of 73-78-151, while Bruce Gantt from the Charlotte Tour recorded 78-77-155 to round out the top five list.
After 36 holes of golf in the A flight, there still wasn’t a winner to crown as Donnie Pritt from the Eastern NC Tour posted 75-74-149 and Ron Brady (Central Carolina) shot 79-70-149 triggering a sudden victory playoff. The playoff began on hole one. The ‘sudden’ part of sudden victory played out on that first hole as Donnie rolled in a par putt to take the hole and the victory. Bo Crooks (Central) and Paul Hundhammer (Central) recorded identical scores of 76-76-152 in the T3 finish. Fifth place was claimed by Masa Kokubu from the Charlotte Tour with rounds of 82-74 for a 156 total. Sixth place was a two day tie as Mike Geske from the Charlotte Tour carded 82-77-159, and Chris Ludwig (Central) shot 80-79-159. Danny Sweetman and Carlos Sanchez, both from the Charlotte Tour, tied for eighth place with two day totals of 160. Danny shot 78-82 with Carlos posting 77-83.
In the B flight, Dan Johnson (Central) had a great day one round of one over par 72 and followed it with another good round of 77 for a total of 149 to take the seven shot victory. Chuck Taubersmith (Central) was chasing but never catching the leader as he posted 80-76-156 in the runner up position. Third place was snagged by Michael Smith (Central) with scores of 77-81-159, while Kevin Lepage from the Charlotte Tour claimed fourth as he recorded scores of 81-81-162. In the T5 finish Brien Cozart from the Eastern NC Tour carded 86-78-164 and Bobby Shipwash (Central) shot 80-84-164. Malcolm Stout stood alone in seventh place with rounds of 79-86-165. Eighth place was a three way tie at 168 as Wilson Shelton (Central) shot 87-81, Eric Walker (Charlotte) 86-82, and Allen Wilson Eastern) 82-86.
In the C flight, Rob Geilhausen (Central) fired excellent rounds of 81-85-166 to claim victory by four strokes. Runner up David Teague (Central) posted rounds of 87-83-170. Third place was a T3 as David Janotha (Charlotte) shot 84-89-173 and TJ James from the Augusta GA Tour shot 82-91-173. Rounding out the top five list, Mike Grant (Charlotte) posted 82-92-174. Sixth and seventh places were Daniel Caffelle (Central) 90-86-176 and Lee Touchton (Charlotte) 87-89-176 respectively.
In the D flight, P Martinez from the Eastern NC Tour fired rounds of 91 and followed that up with an awesome round of 82 for a 173 total and a six stroke victory. Richard Pfister Central) became the runner up by posting scores of 88-91-179. Marty Carpenter (Central) grabbed the third place position by shooting scores of 93-92-185, while Benton Smith (Central) posted rounds of 91-95-186 for a fourth place finish. To round out the top five list, Kelly Brown (Central) carded scores of 98-89-187 and Tom Kubla (Central) posted 92-95-187.
Gates Four Golf & Country Club

On Thursday June 20th, the Central Carolina Senior Amateur Golf Tour rolled into Fayetteville to tackle Gates Four Golf & Country Club. Weather was warm and sunny.
In the Champ flight, it was a three man battle from beginning to end. When the dust settled, John East claimed victory by virtue of his round of 76 for his first win of the season. Well done John! Spurling Cook became the runner up with a score of 78, while Steve Lassiter grabbed third place by carding a score of 80.
Donnie Pritt from the Eastern NC Tour made his trip worthwhile by firing a two over par round of 74 in the A flight for the three shot win. Good job Donnie! Bo Crooks took second place posting a score of 77, while Ron Hockensmith snagged third place with a 79. Ron Brady’s round of 80 got him into the fourth place position, and Rick Luzar rounded out the top five by shooting an 85.
In the B flight, a sudden victory playoff was required because Michael Smith and Dan Johnson ended the round tied with a pair of 80’s. After both players made par on the first hole they moved on to hole #2. This time there was no tie as Michael made another par to top Dan’s bogey and win for the second time in three events. Kudos Michael! Third place was a tie as Gil Ro and Tim Baldwin both recorded rounds of 81, while Cisco Almodovar rounded out the top five by carding a score of 83.
Patrick Warren shot an excellent score of 82 in the C flight to take the victory by a comfortable five strokes. It was Patrick’s second win of 2024. Great job Patrick! Daniel Caffelle was runner up with his round of 87, as Mark Keziah posted an 88 to take home third place.
In the D flight, Richard Pfister pulled off a two stroke victory by posting a very nice round of 85. Way to go Richard! Benton Smith was runner up with a nice round of his own carding 87. Harold Johnson from the Eastern NC Tour took third place honors by shooting a score of 93, while Joe Singletary from the Nashville TN Tour and Kelly Brown finished the day T4 with matching scores of 94.
On Thursday July 18th the Central Carolina Tour returns to the Riverwood GC in Clayton. If you have been on the Tour for a while you know that Riverwood is a quality track. On Saturday June 8th, the Central Carolina Senior Amateur Golf Tour returned to Sanford for a day of competitive golf, fun, and an annual commemoration for Jimmy Smith, brother of Tour Director Chuck Smith. The weather could not have been more perfect. Not a cloud in the sky, ideal temps, and of course perfect course conditions at The Golf Club at Quail Ridge.
In the Champ flight, Chris Wilkes from the Eastern NC Tour, stood alone posting a round of 82 to claim the victory and the first place crystal. Well done Chris!
Ron Hockensmith won his second A flight event of the season in a tight finish. Ron’s round of 79 gave him the single shot victory. Good job Ron! Ken Eichele was runner up with the score of 80, while Paul Hundhammer grabbed third place by carding an 81. Scott Ide from the Charlotte Tour placed fourth with his round of 82, and Ron Brady rounded out the top five by recording an 83.
In the B flight, Chuck Taubersmith collected his second victory of the year as he posted a score of 81. Kudos Chuck! Dennis Mason’s 82 was good for the runner up position, Michael Smith snagged third place with a round of 85, while Tim Baldwin claimed the fourth place slot as he fired a score of 89. Eddie Jaggers shot a 91, as did Mark Dieck from the Charlotte Tour to tie for fifth place.
Rob Geilhausen pulled off a two stroke victory in the C flight by posting a round of 83. Great golf Rob! Mark Keziah finished in second place by shooting a score of 85, while Jesse King placed third by recording an 88. It was a three way tie for fourth place as Keith Meeks, Mike Groom, and Daniel Caffelle all posted rounds of 91.
In the D flight, Benton Smith eaked out a one shot victory by firing a round of 88. Way to go Benton! Kelly Brown battled Benton all day but had to settle for second place at the end of the day as he carded 89. Marty Carpenter grabbed a spot in the top three with a score of 91, while Richard Pfister snagged the fourth place finish with a score of 92. Pinewood CC

On Thursday June 6th, the Central Carolina Senior Amateur Golf Tour made a stop at Pinewood CC in Asheboro. It was cloudy as the competitors made their way to their starting holes, but it didn’t take long for the sun to win out and the temps warmed nicely. Course conditions were excellent and Pinewood was a good challenge.
In the Champ flight, Steve Lassiter posted a round of 80 to take the win by five strokes. Well done Steve! Chris Wilkes from the Eastern NC Tour was runner up with a score of 85.
The leader board was much tighter in the A flight as Dan Anthony pulled out a single shot victory shooting an 81 for his first win of the season. Good job Dan! Ken Eichele grabbed runner up honors as he carded a round of 82. Third place was a three way tie as Randy Bunn from the Eastern NC Tour, Ron Brady, and Shawn Cacioppo all recorded rounds of 83.
In the B flight, regulation play was insufficient to determine a winner as Michael Smith and Gil Ro posted excellent rounds of 80 which forced an on course playoff. Mike and Gil proceeded to hole one to face off for the sudden victory showdown. The playoff lasted just one hole as Mike rolled in a putt for par that Gil was unable to match. Kudos Mike! Dan Johnson and Wilson Shelton ended the day T3 as both players shot a pair of 81’s, while Bobby Shipwash rounded out the top five with a round of 82.
The C flight also required a sudden victory playoff as Rob Geilhausen and David Teague matched scorecards with rounds of 93. So Rob and David rolled out to hole one. And just as in the other flight, the winner was determined on that first hole as Rob made par topping David’s bogey giving Rob back to back victories. Great golf Rob! Mark Keziah grabbed third place posting 94, while Keith Meeks snagged fourth with his round of 95. Rounding out the top five it was Mike Groom with a score of 96.
In the D flight, Richard Pfister fired a 93 for the one shot victory and his second consecutive win. Way to go Richard! Kelly Brown continued his fine play as well as he carded 94 in the runner up position. Benton Smith placed third by shooting 98. Meanwhile, Harold Johnson from the Eastern NC Tour, Barry Whitesell, and Tour Director Sola Edwards ended the event T4 with identical rounds of 100.
Colonial Country Club

The Central Carolina Senior Amateur Golf Tour arrived in Thomasville on Thursday May 30th to take on the Colonial CC. The early temperature was a little below normal but it warmed up nicely as the day wore on and the clouds burned off.
In the Champ flight, Lee Everhart returned to the competitive golf that is the Senior Amateur Golf Tour and made his presence felt immediately by shooting 78 to win by a single stroke. Well done Lee! John East was runner up with a round of 79, while Chris Wilkes from the Eastern NC Tour ended the day in third place with a score of 80.
An on course playoff was required in the A flight as three players shot scores of 78. So Frank Bunn, Ken Eichele, and Ben Wheaton returned to hole one to determine the winner. It just so happens that it was Frank’s return to the Senior Tour also and he was apparently determined to make it a memorable return. So while John and Ben made a par on the first hole, Frank rolled in a putt for birdie and the victory. Good job Frank! Ron Hockensmith finished fourth narrowly missing the playoff with a round of 79, while Ron Brady rounded out the top five with a score of 80.
Wilson Shelton got off to a good start in the B flight and continued his steady play to finish with a three over par 75 and a six shot victory. It was Wilson’s second victory in the month of May. Kudos Wilson! Michael Smith fired an 81 as the runner up, while Rob Andrews grabbed the third place position with a score of 82. Dick Kuehl and Gene Jones posted matching scores of 83 for a T4 finish.
Another playoff became necessary in the C flight as Rob Geilhausen and Mike Groom both recorded rounds of 86. Hole one was the starting hole today for any playoffs so the players headed out to the first tee. The playoff ended on that first hole as Rob rolled in a putt for par that Mike was unable to cover in order to move on. Great golf Rob! Keith Meeks snagged the third place position with his round of 88, while Patrick Warren ended the round in fourth place by shooting 89. Marty Carpenter’s round of 92 completed the top five list.
In the D flight, Richard Pfister posted a round of 91 to collect his second win in the last 14 days. Way to go Richard! Tour Director Sola Edwards and Kelly Brown were dual runners up with scores of 93. Benton Smith shot 95 taking the fourth place spot, while Barry Whitesell’s 96 made the final top five slot.

12 Oaks CC

On Monday May 20th, the Central Carolina Senior Amateur Golf Tour made a trip to Holly Springs to tackle the absolutely fabulous Club at 12 Oaks. A Nicklaus design that can test your golf skills. But beautiful golf weather made the challenge fun.
In the Champ flight, eighteen regulation holes did not deliver a winner as Spurling Cook and John East both recorded rounds of 88 requiring an on course playoff. The playoff started on hole one and ended on hole one as Spurling made a great birdie to best John’s par, also a great score for that hole. Well done Spurling!
Chris Ludwig put together an incredible round of golf in the A flight on Jack’s challenging layout as he posted even par 72 for an astonishing nine stroke victory. It was Chris’s first win this season. Great job Chris! Ron Brady and Marshall Miller made the runner up spot a T2 finish as both competitors carded scores of 81. Fourth place was snagged by Paul Hundhammer for his round of 86, while Chuck Taubersmith rounded out the top five by shooting 89.
In the B flight, Gil Ro captured his first victory of 2024 as he fired a great round of 77. Kudos Gil! Michael Smith had a nice round also as his 80 put him into second place, while Allen Hardy from the Eastern NC Tour and Adam Hoeh ended the day tied for third place shooting a pair of 86’s. Tim Baldwin, and Gus Alford from the Eastern NC Tour ended the event T5 with matching rounds of 87.
David Teague got off to a good start in the C flight and kept that train rolling as he carded a round of 88 to collect his first victory of the season. Great golf David! The runner up slot was packed with players as Ed McNally, Patrick Warren, and Glenn Lewis from the Eastern NC Tour all posted rounds of 94, while Keith Meeks shot a 96 to complete the top five list.
Kelly Brown settled into a rhythm on the front nine and kept it going the rest of the day to get his first win in the D flight with a round of 94. Way to go Kelly! Richard Pfister claimed second place by firing a round of 97, while Harold Johnson from the Eastern NC Tour placed third by shooting 101. Gary Bascom from the Eastern NC Tour finished his day in fourth place with a score of 105, while fellow Eastern NC Tour member Joseph Collins rounded out the top five finishes with a 106.
The next challenge for Central Carolina will be the fabulous Colonial CC in Thomasville on Thursday May 30th with a 10am shotgun start. It’s a personal favorite, you really do not want to miss this gem.
Siler City CC

On Thursday May 16th, the Central Carolina Senior Amateur Golf Tour made a trip to Siler City to tackle Siler City Country Club. The weather was absolutely perfect for golf, and the new Bermuda greens and golf course made for excellent competition. In fact, it turned into playoff Thursday as 3 of the 5 flights required a playoff to determine the flight winner.
It started in the Champ flight as Steve Lassiter and John East both shot excellent rounds of one over par 73. So to hole one they went for the sudden victory playoff. After both players made par on the first two holes, they came to the par 3 third hole. Steve hit a nice shot, but it carried past the hole and left a tricky 15 foot downhill putt. John’s shot came up just short of the putting surface, but he made a nice chip to just below the cup and had a relatively easy par putt. Steve looked over his putt, set up over it, made a smooth gentle stroke, then watched as it fell over the front of the cup for a winning birdie. Well done Steve! Congrats to both players for two great rounds of golf and an exciting playoff. Central’s Spurling Cook, and Mark Macejko from the Charleston SC Tour ended the day T3 with rounds of 76.
In the A flight, Tour Director Chuck Smith and Charlotte Tour Director Scott Ide battled all day and recorded matching scores of 76 which also required a playoff. They went out to hole one, but this time it didn’t take three holes to get a winner. Scott made a par on the par four first hole, but Chuck’s par putt just missed making Scott the victor. Good job Scott! Ken Eichele and Paul Hundhammer posted scores of 78 in a T3 finish, while Ron Hockensmith and Dan Anthony ended their rounds in a fifth place tie with scores of 79.
Chuck Taubershith shot an incredible round of golf carding and even par 72 in the B flight for the win. Kudos Chuck! The runner up score of 80 was turned in by Allen Wilson from the Eastern NC Tour. Third place in the flight was a FOUR way tie as Michael Smith, Steven Holley, Bobby Shipwash, and Malcolm Stout all recorded scores of 82.
The C flight was the third and final tie and playoff as Patrick Warren, Jesse King, and Rob Geilhausen all turned in rounds of 84. The busy first hole was the scene of the playoff again. While Jesse and Rob made bogey on the hole, Patrick calmly rolled in a par putt to secure his first victory of the season. Great golf Patrick! Mark Keziah grabbed the fourth place position by shooting 85, while Marty Carpenter carded 88 to round out the top five.
In the D flight, Richard Pfister posted a nice round of 91 to make it a four shot victory and his second win of the year. Way to go Richard! Harold Johnson from the Eastern NC Tour was runner up carding 95, while Barry Whitesell and Don Senior completed their competition T3 scoring a pair of 97’s. Fifth place was a T5 as Benton Smith and Kelly Brown posted identical rounds of 99.

On Thursday May 2nd, the Central Carolina Senior Amateur Golf Tour arrived at the Challenge in Graham, NC for an early shotgun start. The weather was absolutely perfect for golf. The turn-out was small but the enthusiasm of the players was big!
In the Champ Flight, it was a run- away victory for Spurling Cook who was in a league all his own shooting an 83. This win gave him the lead in the points race. Great job Spurling!
The A flight players had a more dramatic finish as Ron Brady and Scott Ide, the Charlotte Tour Director tied for first place with a score of 75. They had a sudden death play-off on Hole 1. This is where Brady hit down the right side of the fairway and Ide hit on the left side. Brady’s approach shot reached the green which gave him the opportunity to putt for a birdie but missed that putt, tapped in for a par. Ide’s approach shot missed the green so he chipped up and two putted for a bogey. Brady pulled off a two putt for the par and won the first-place position! Chuck Smith, our very own tour director, came in with a nice 78 to take third-place. Paul Hundhammer came in fourth with an 82 and Ken Eichele came in with an 84 to place fifth.
Our own Wilson Shelton took the trophy for first-place in the B flight with a smooth score of 79! Awesome playing Wilson because this course was appropriately named “The Challenge” for sure! Bobby Shipwash and Chuck Taubersmith both gave Wilson a run for first place with scores of 80 each, but Wilson hung on to take the win. Shipwash came in 2nd and Taubersmith came in 3rd. Gene Jones, “Mean Gene” shot an 83 to come in 4th while Gil Ro and Eddie Jaggers finished with scores of 84 to T5. Great competition B flighers!
Rob Geilhausen drove to the Challenge on Thursday to win C Flight with a score of 84. Nice job Rob! Congratulations! Geilhausen and Mike Groom played great golf but Geilhausen held the lead by one stroke leaving Groom to finish up 2nd! Great playing Mike! Patrick Warren placed 3rd with a score of 89 and Keith Meeks and Edward McNally ended with a score of 90.
Barry Whitesell is on a roll in D Flight. He’s playing lights out! He shot a 91 to win the D Flight beating Sola Edwards Smith, tour director, by 3 strokes. Our own Don Michaux is back and came in 3rd and shot a 94. Kelly Brown came in 4th place with a 96 while Eddie Womack rounded off the top 5 with a score of 100.

The Central Carolina Senior Amateur Golf Tour made a trip to Pittsboro to attack the newly renovated Chapel Ridge Golf Club on Thursday April 25th. It was cloudy and a little cool but the course was in great condition.
In the Champ flight, Steve Lassiter pulled off a two stroke victory by posting a very nice two over par round of 74. Well done Steve! Alan Dirk turned in the runner up score of 76, while Dale Ring finished third carding 78. Chris Wilkes from the Eastern NC Tour snagged the fourth place slot with a round of 79, while Spurling Cook rounded out the top five posting an 82.
Ron Hockensmith had a great day in the A flight firing a score of 76 as he held onto the one shot victory, his first of the season. Great job Ron! Randy Bunn from the Eastern NC Tour kept the pressure on all day but had to settle for the runner up position carding 77. Bo Crooks had the third place finish posting 81, while Ron Brady captured fourth with his round of 82. Paul Hundhammer rounded out the top five by recording a round of 83.
In the B flight, Tim Baldwin posted an excellent round of 75 enroute to the four shot victory. Kudos Tim! Dan Johnson garnered a second place finish by virtue of a nice round of 79, while Willie Boyd from the Eastern NC Tour and Adam Hoeh ended the day T3 with scores of 81. Fourth place was another tie as Eddie Jaggers and Michael Broadway posted identical rounds of 83.
Boom Boom Ed McNally collected his first win this season in the C flight after a number of close calls as his 85 was good for a one stroke victory. Great golf Ed! Mark Keziah pushed Ed all day, and his 86 gave him the runner up spot. Mike Groom’s 89 put him into third place, while Mark Jochum from the Columbus OH Tour, Rob Geilhausen, and James McPherson Sr all completed their rounds T4 with scores of 93.
In the D flight, Benton Smith continued his fine play by posting a score of 93 to collect the back to back victory. Way to go Benton! Our very own Tour Director Sola Edwards and Richard Pfister shot matching scores of 97 in the T2 finish. As scores were recorded, fourth place became a T4 as Don Michaux, Neil Bleau from the Jacksonville FL Tour, and Tom Kubla all carded rounds of 98.

On Thursday April 4th, the Central Carolina Senior Amateur Golf Tour came to the “most central point” in North Carolina, Sanford. The reason for the trip was not a geography lesson, but golf competition on the beautiful Lake Course of Carolina Trace. Cool temps and good course conditions greeted the players.
In the Champ flight, Steve Lassiter took an early lead and never let go, posting a round of 75 to win by four shots. Well done Steve! Alan Dirk and Eli Villanueva ended the day T2 carding scores of 79, while Spurling Cook grabbed fourth place with a score of 81.
Donnie Pritt from the Eastern NC Tour made his trip home more enjoyable by shooting 76 in the A flight to collect the two stroke victory. Good job Donnie! Randy Bunn from the Eastern NC Tour and Paul Hundhammer shot identical rounds of 78 for a second place tie. Matt Wiley, visiting from the Michigan Tour snagged the fourth place finish. Johnny Taylor from the Eastern NC Tour and Ron Brady ended the day T5 by shooting a couple of 82’s.
In the B flight, Paul Perrone came away the four stroke winner with a nice round of 79. Kudos Paul! Michael Smith was the runner up on Thursday carding a round of 83. Third place was a four way tie as Allen Hardy from the Eastern NC Tour, Malcolm Stout, Adam Hoeh, and Dan Johnson all recorded scores of 84.
Rich Henn made the trip west from the Eastern NC Tour and made the trip back east with the C flight winners trophy by posting 84. Great golf Rich! Rob Geilhausen finished a single stroke back as the runner up with a round of 85. Greg Martin and Ed McNally ended their day T3 with matching rounds of 90, while Mike Groom rounded out the top five with a score of 92.
In the D flight, Benton Smith shot a score of 93 to fend off all competitors and win by a single shot. Way to go Benton! Randy Collier from the Eastern NC Tour was the closest to Benton in the end by firing the runner up round of 94. Tom Kubla held on to third place carding a score of 96, while Kelly Brown and Barry Whitesell closed out the scoring with identical rounds of 101.

On Thursday March 21st, the Central Carolina Senior Amateur Golf Tour arrived at the Bayonet at Puppy Creek in Raeford. It was a cool spring day, but the weather didn’t cool down the enthusiasm of the competitors.
In the Champ flight, Steve Lassiter fired a round of 76 to win his first event of 2024. Well done Steve! Eli Villanueva finished in second place posting a score of 79.
Paul Hundhammer carded 78 to hold off the rest of the A flight to collect his first win of the season by a single shot. Great job Paul! Randy Bunn from the Eastern NC Tour was runner up shooting 79, while Ken Eichele and Ron Brady ended the day T3 with rounds of 81. Johnny Adams from the Eastern NC Tour rounded out the top five with his round of 87.
In the B flight, Mike Wallace also pulled out a single shot victory with a round of 82 for his first W this year. Kudos Mike! Another Mike, Michael Smith, was the one shot back as his 83 gave him the runner up spot. Malcolm Stout was a single shot behind Mike #2 with his round of 84, while Adam Hoeh, Lyman Howard from the Eastern NC Tour, and Chuck Taubersmith finished in a three way tie for fourth with 85’s.
Mike Groom made it back to back W’s in the C flight by posting 83 to win by four shots. Great golf Mike! Patrick Warren made it a runner up finish with his 87, while Troy Norton from Mississippi Tour grabbed third place carding 88. Mark Keziah snagged a fourth place finish posting 89, as Glenn Lewis from the Eastern NC Tour closed out the top five with a round of 90.
In the D flight, Tom Kubla played some consistent golf. And a warm putter allowed him to shoot 91 and take the win by three shots. Way to go Tom! TD Sola Edwards took second place with her round of 94, while Steve Howard posted 98 to snag third. Jimmy Dollar’s round of 99 made him the fourth place finisher, and Richard Pfister carded an even 100 to complete the top five.

The Central Carolina Senior Amateur Golf Tour took on Longleaf Golf & Family Club in Southern Pines on Tuesday March 5th. It was typical spring weather and the course conditions were quite good.
The Champ flight was won by Spurling Cook with a score of 88 to collect his first win of the season.
In the A flight, Fred Rogers from the Eastern NC Tour made his trip to Southern Pines worthwhile by firing a one over par 73 to collect the win. Great job Fred! Dan Anthony took runner up honors carding a round of 75, while Ron Hockensmith finished third as he posted a score of 76. Ron Brady and Chris Ludwig shot identical scores of 77 in a T4 finish.
Michael Broadway came out firing in the B flight and rolled to a five stroke victory with a round of 74. Kudos Michael! Dan Johnson and Shawn Cacioppo ended the day T2 with matching 79 scores. Michael Smith claimed the fourth place spot by shooting 82. And it was a four way tie for fifth as Gene Jones, Dennis Mason, Chuck Taubersmith, and Tim Matthews from the Southern Virginia Tour all recorded rounds of 83.
In the C flight, Mike Groom also pulled off a five shot victory by firing a score of 84. Great golfing Mike! Rob Geilhausen continued his good play as he carded a round of 89 as runner up, while Marty Carpenter and Ed McNally ended their rounds T3 as they matched scorecards with 91’s. Also turning in matching scores Greg Martin and Clyde Foster, from the Washington DC Metro Tour finished the event T5 posting 92’s.
Benton Smith made it back to back wins in the D flight as he recorded the score of 88. Way to go Benton! Richard Pfister took the runner up slot by carding 90, while Tom Kubla placed third with a round of 92. Don Senior grabbed fourth place shooting 98, and rounding out the top five it was Eddie Womack with a score of 100.

Campbell University in Lillington welcomed the Central Carolina Senior Amateur Golf Tour to play their Keith Hills Golf Course on Thursday February 15th. It was cool and breezy, and that added to the challenge of Keith Hills.
In the Champ flight, it was Trent Gregory turning in a round of 74 to make it back to back wins. Well done Trent! Eli Villanueva took second place with a score of 77, while Spurling Cook grabbed third place by carding a round of 79. Ken Eichele’s round of 87 gave him a fourth place finish, and Chris Johnson from the Eastern NC Tour rounded out the top five posting 91.

Great job Mark! Bo Crooks posted 80 in a fourth place finish, while Jim Reardon grabbed fifth place with an 81.
In the B flight, Malcolm Stout eaked out a single shot victory by carding a score of 82. Kudos Malcolm! Dennis Mason became the runner up with his round of 83, while Dick Kuehl and Dan Caffelle ended the day T3 as both competitors shot scores of 86. Fifth place was a three way tie as Dan Johnson, Gene Jones, and Gil Ro all recorded scores of 87.
The C flight saw Mark Keziah get off to a fast start and then cruise to a seven shot victory by firing an 84. Great golfing Mark! Steven Wrenn from the Eastern NC Tour wrapped up the runner up slot with his round of 91, while Rob Geilhausen and Mike Groom had a T3 finish with rounds of 92. Rounding out the top five, Dan Williams from the Eastern NC Tour and Mark Jochum from the Columbus OH Tour turned in scores of 93.

Quail Ridge Golf Course

On Saturday February 10th, the Central Carolina Senior Amateur Golf Tour rolled into Sanford to take on the fabulous Golf Club at Quail Ridge. The course was/is in great shape, and the weather was very warm but windy at times adding to the challenge of golf.
In the Champ flight, Trent Gregory fired an excellent even par round of 72 to take the victory. Well done Trent! Mike Gentry was runner up just a single shot back with his great round of 73. Eli Villanueva placed third shooting 74, while Ken Eichele shot a round of 80 for the fourth place finish.
In the A flight, eighteen holes of regulation golf could not produce a winner as TD Chuck Smith and Ron Brady recorded matching scores of 82. By tour rule, an on course sudden victory playoff must determine the winner so Chuck and Ron made their way to the first tee. It was a short playoff this day as Chuck calmly rolled in a putt for par that Ron was unable to cover giving Chuck the victory. Great job Chuck! Ron was the obvious runner up, while Ron Hockensmith grabbed third place with his round of 83. Chris Rowland snagged fourth by carding an 89, and Jim Reardon rounded out the top five with a score of 91.
The B flight also needed extra holes to determine a winner as three players posted rounds of 83. So Jamie Rogalski, Ben Martin, and Gene Jones followed the A flight playoff to the first hole to get it on. Again it was a short playoff as Jamie made par on hole one that neither Ben nor Gene could match. Kudos Jamie! Since Ben and Gene were T2, Dennis Mason’s 84 became fourth place, while Dan Johnson posted 85 to complete the top five. Meanwhile Lee Jouglard snagged sixth place with a round of 86.
In the C flight, no playoff was required as Keith Meeks posted a great round of 83 to take a four shot victory. Good shooting Keith! Runner up Rob Geilhausen fired a round of 87, while Scott Phillips finished third with a score of 92. Ed McNally, and Mark Jochum from the Columbus OH Tour, carded matching 93’s in their T4 finish.
The D flight saw Tom Kubla follow his win at Hyland with a round of 89 to record back to back victories. Way to go Tom! TD Sola Edwards posted the runner up score of 92, while Benton Smith placed third with his round of 93. Kelly Brown turned in a score of 96 taking the fourth place spot, and Richard Pfister rounded out the top five shooting 97.

On Saturday February 3rd, the Central Carolina Senior Amateur Golf Tour kicked off the 2024 season at Hyland Golf Club in Southern Pines. Temperatures were a little cool, but the competition was hot.
In the Champ flight, Dale Ring brought his A game to the first event and posted a one over par 73 to win by six shots. Well done Dale! Robert Tucker and Ken Eichele both carded 79 that made them dual runners up. Fourth place was snagged by Dean Parziale with a score of 81, while Gerald Lewis rounded out the top five scoring 93.
Ron Brady pulled off a single shot victory in the A flight with his round of 79. Great job Ron! The runner up score of 80 was posted by Bo Crooks, while Ron Hockensmith carded 82 to grab the third place position. Jeff Wrona from the Charlestown, SC Tour and Chris Rowland finished their opening event T4 as both competitors shot 84.
In the B flight, Rob Andrews came out swinging and took down a two shot victory by posting a score of 81. Kudos Rob! Michael Smith placed second by carding a round of 83, while Michael Broadway and Gene Jones ended the day T3 as each player shot 84. Kenneth Beckett from the Southern Virginia Tour produced a round of 85 for fifth place and Jamie Rogalski placed sixth by shooting an 87.
Greg Martin put together a round of 85 in the C flight which allowed him to hang onto a single shot victory. David Swimm’s score of 86 held up to make him runner up, while Mike James from the Charlotte Tour carded 88 for the third place finish. Dan Keddie from the Charlotte Tour and Rob Geilhausen posted matching rounds of 92 to end the day T4.
In the D flight, Tom Kubla managed to hang on to a small lead just long enough to snag the single shot victory with a score of 88. Steve Howard placed second by carding 69, while Kelly Brown held onto third place with a round of 92. Benton Smith’s round of 94 put him in fourth place, while Eddie Womack and TD Sola Smith made it a T5 finish with matching 103’s.
The next event for the Senior Amateur Tour is Saturday February 10th at the fabulous Golf Club at Quail Ridge in Sanford. The fairways are green and lush and the greens are immaculate. This one will again be a sell out so sign up now to avoid missing this great course.
