CELEBRATING

THE 20th SEASON OF THE AMATEUR GOLFWEEK TOUR!

FoxFire Resort and Golf

Foxfire Resort and Golf

Foxfire Resort and Golf Club features 36 holes of world-class, North Carolina golf. For nearly four decades golfers from across the globe have come to Foxfire, seeking their unique blend of layout, natural beauty and high-quality service.

Hall of Fame architect Gene Hamm designed these 36 holes to take full advantage of the rolling hills, soft sandy soils and plentiful area lakes.

The course you will be playing is the Red Fox.

The Red Fox Course is the member’s favorite. This Pinehurst golf course offers wide manicured fairways and large elevated fast rolling greens. Water comes into play on 6 holes requiring forced carries from the back tees but with the option of going around the hazards from the forward tees.

Fairway bunkers are strategically placed to grab the wayward shot and there is no lack of sand guarding the greens. This beautiful Gene Hamm design offers plenty of “bail out” places to avoid the most severe drop offs and deep faced bunkers.

If you played this course years ago, it is time to return. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Expect your peers to have already signed-up. For the waiting list, call Bruce Hallenbeck at 336-495-6556 or email him at behgolf@aol.com.

"Improve your golf mental toughness 10-fold"

Every golfer has heard the saying "It's all in your head" or "Golf is 90% mental" or "Golf is the most mentally demanding sport in the world." Yet what do golfers do about it? Well, most often absolutley nothing! Not necessarily because they don't want to, but sometimes golfers actually think the mental game doesn't matter to them!

Click Here to Unlock Your Mind and Shoot Better Golf

EVERY golfer can benefit from increasing their mental toughness and harnessing the full power of thier mind!

Many golfers naively get stuck into thinking that the mental game only matters for elite players or pros who make a living golfing. Nonsense! EVERY golfer needs to use their mind properly.

  • It is your mind that determines how well you learn when taking lessons. (and this training course is packed with accelerated learning techniques that will have you absorbing more from lessons)

  • It is your mind that will allow you to set up to the ball correctly and commit to your swing (or not!).

  • It is your mind that will either stay focused under pressure and get you to make a smooth, fluid stroke when you need to drain an 8 footer for the win, or have you choking like a dog and collapsing like a house of cards when the heat is on!

Click Here to Unlock Your Mind and Shoot Better Golf

"When you have a chance to shoot the lowest score of your life, you won't choke - You Will Go Low!"

RAIN SHORTENED SENIOR TOUR MAJOR at LITTLE RIVER IN THE BOOKS

Carthage, NC

May 15, 2014

108 intrepid golfers teed it up in the 2nd Major Championship of the 2014 Senior Amateur Golf Tour season at Little River Resort with an advanced weather report that was not promising.

Unfortunately the report was more than accurate as rain started to fall almost immediately when the groups started out on their first holes. As play went on conditions got progressively worse, forcing a suspension of play after each group had played approximately 7 holes.

Play resumed in about an hour and a half, but it didn't take long for the wet conditions to return in earnest, forcing an early withdrawal from the course.

As per Tour rules and guidelines, because every group had finished a minimum of 9 holes, the event was considered official and was called at that point. To fairly judge the results every flight was scored using the exact holes that each member of that flight had completed. This resulted in the event being decided by the scores on approximately 6 holes for each flight.

The top five finishers (and ties) in each flight were as follows:

CHAMPIONSHIP (6027 yds)

Howard Nemenz, Winston-Salem

Hugh Beckwith, West End

Joey Moffitt, High Point

Craig Cathey, Burlington

Gary Roberson, Burlington

A FLIGHT (6027 yds)

David Frye, Winston-Salem

James Jones, Raleigh

Randy Robbins, Smithfield

Mark McKenna, Fuquay-Varina

Don Moore, Raleigh

Sonny Rose, Jackson Springs

Bob Dail, Wendell

B FLIGHT (6027 yds)

Edward Burton, Durham

Larry Ringen, Pinehurst

Mike Dillon, Clayton

Mike Allison, Durham

Darrell Canady, Clayton

Jim Sheldon, Chapel Hill

C FLIGHT (6027 yds)

John Hill, Aberdeen

Jim Tesch, Raleigh

Lee Smith, Mebane

Steve High, Rocky Mount

Bobby Hutchison, Walnut Cove

Theodore Harris, Fayetteville

Where Will You Be in the 2014 Season Ending Point Standings Race?

There are only two ways to get to the year ending National Tournament - win one of the four majors or be one of the Top 15 point earners in your flight.

As you plot your tour schedule, be cognizant of the fact, only the top 15 are guaranteed access. Usually, most flight races are tight and depends on how well you play and of course how many tour dates you participate in during 2014.

Do you know how many tournaments you will need to play and what place you will need to finish in each tournament to ensure you have your automatic invitation?

Rules Review

It has been suggested that there should be a series of Rules scenarios for you to solve. So begins a series of problems titled What's the Score?

Doc Miller has graciously agreed to allow me to share these with you that he has been sending since July 2009.

I will include one each week. You should try to determine the answer based upon your knowledge of the Rules when ever possible and then use your Rule book to confirm.

There will be no trick questions or hidden information.

Question from week #250

Gary and Hank are opponents in a match. Gary mistakenly plays Hank’s ball which lies in the first cut of rough, taking a sizable divot in the process. Choose from the options below:

1. Hank may substitute a ball, placing it within one club-length of the original spot, no closer to the hole. If the fairway is within one club-length, there is no restriction for choosing that location.

2. Hank may either retrieve the original ball or substitute a ball. He must place the ball on the original spot even though that spot has been altered.

3. Hank must place a ball on the nearest spot that is most similar to the original lie that is within one club-length of the original spot and no closer to the hole.

4. Who cares? Gary lost the hole when he played a wrong ball.

Answer

This is match play, so 4 is the correct answer. (R15-3a)

How about if it were stroke play? Then answer 3 would be correct, and Gary would be penalized two strokes. (R15-3b, R20-3) If for some reason the exact spot of the ball is in doubt, then instead of placing, the spot of the ball would have to be estimated, and Hank would have to drop ball on that spot, no nearer the hole. (R20-3c)

TTour Weather Guidelines

Primarily, we adhere to the same guidelines that the PGA Tour uses: If Primarily, the course is open, we're going to play.

The only exception to this is that I'll never put any of you in harm's way during an event because of dangerous weather. (i.e. - lightening or severe cold and wetness).

In other words, I won't let the course "bully" us into playing where an unsafe condition might exist.

Because I arrive at every event at least two hours prior to the start time and I generally have to leave my house at least an hour before that to get to the course, there is no sense calling me just before the event, because I won't be at the office. The best avenue to take is to call the course if the weather seems threatening.

If you are on the roster for the event, and you do not get a cancellation notice from the course after calling them, you are expected to show up in time for the scheduled shotgun start.
