FULL FIELD FOR SENIOR AMATEUR TOUR AT GRANDOVER
Posted: 4/9/2010 8:11:50 AM
Greensboro, NC (April 8, 2010) - Members of the Triad, Raleigh, and Pinehurst Divisions of the Senior Amateur Tour are learning they have to sign up early to be assured a spot in Tour events. For the second tournament in a row, all spots were accounted for more than a week before the event. "When we have quality venues like Forest Oaks Country Club and Grandover Resort, which were the last two courses we played, they sure fill up fast" said Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck. The Tour has a policy of limiting participation to a maximum of 120 players at any given event. "I learned a long time ago that it's better to have 120 happy golfers out there than 144 miserable ones due to slow play brought about by overcrowding the course", noted Hallenbeck. One of the reasons for the popularity enjoyed by the Tour is that larger fields provide bigger prize pools. "The guys are especially excited about that because now that we are giving pre-paid Mastercards for as many as six prizes in each individual flight, they feel that's something worthwhile to compete for" said Hallenbeck. Three flight winners went home with $200 cards - Randy Bunn of Zebulon edged Durham's Mike Allison in the A Flight in a playoff with a par on the first extra hole, Hamlet's James Herndon took top honors in the B Flight with a 77, while Advance's Joe Cochrane walked away with the win in the C Flight, posting an 83. The Championship Flight winner, John East of Rockingham, also took home a 3-figure card with his 77. "We've got a good advance sign-up for our event next week at Chapel Ridge in Pittsboro", said Hallenbeck, "I expect a good number there as well. Any amateur golfer over 50 who wants information on how to play in an event can call me at 336-495-6556, or send an email to behgolf@aol.com".
