CARY'S DILL HARRIS TEETER SR TOUR CHAMP
Posted: 6/5/2009 9:37:59 AM
Graham, NC - (June 4, 2009) James Dill of Cary took first place in the Championship Flight of the Harris Teeter Sr Amateur Tour at The Challenge GC today. Playing in his rookie season, it was Dill's first victory "on-Tour". Dill's 75 on the 6,335 yard, par-72 track was one stroke better than a trio of golfers; Greensboro's George Kennon, Pinehurst's Ken Eichele, and Eddie Dysart of Raleigh. Dill's fast start, with a 35 on the front-nine, enabled him to cruise home with the win. The low score of the day was posted by Greensboro's Randy Coppedge in the A Flight which played from the shorter (5,965 yard) White Tees. Coppedge's even-par 72 gave him a 3-stroke margin over Raleigh's Al Makila. Ron Vanderklok of Advance, and Clemmons' Marshall Wolfe finished their regulation 18-hole round tied with a pair of 78s in the B Flight. As with all 1st-place ties on the Tour, they headed back out to see which of the two would take first place and the $200 gift certificate that went with it. On their 1st playoff hole, Vanderklok "scooped" under his tee-shot, enabling Wolfe to bring home the victory with a simple par. While Wolfe has enjoyed Tour success in past years, this was his first time "in-the-money" in 2009. Greensboro's TJ Warren continued the recent trend of low scoring for the C Flight winners in Harris Teeter competition, as his 83 was 2-strokes clear of Durham's Greg Postlethwait. "After each event we check Tour Handicaps on all Tour members, to make sure that all competitors are flighted fairly. After this event, I anticipate that some of our guys will be receiving a promotion to a higher flight for their next event", noted Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck. "This system of fair competition has been important in achieving the growth we've enjoyed over the past few years". Any amateur golfer over 50 interested in Tour play can contact Hallenbeck at 336-495-6556, or email him at behgolf@aol.com for information on how to get started.
