HARRIS TEETER SR TOUR SCORES GO LOW AT MEADOWLANDS
Posted: 6/12/2009 9:49:16 AM
Wallburg, NC (June 11, 2009) - Great course conditions and perfect weather plus a number of golfers who were really "on their game" combined to produce low scores across the board for the Harris Teeter Senior Tour event held at The Meadowlands Golf Club Thursday. Only one golfer in the combined Championship, A, and B Flights failed to break 90, while not a single C Flight member failed to break 100. Although no official Tour records are kept for performance of the entire field as a whole, Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck said "This has got to be a first". Leading the way appropriately, was Championship Flight member Ken Eichele of Pinehurst who fired a one-under 71 for a 4-shot cushion over Findley, Ohio's David Coolidge and Raleigh's Brent Massey. "I couldn't get off the tee very well today, but thank goodness I was on from 100 (yards) in". The A Flight witnessed some extra drama as Bob Cox of Clemmons and Lewisville's Mike Smith went to sudden death to determine a winner after both fired regulation 73s. The suspense ended early however, as Cox sank a 14 foot putt for par on the first playoff hole after Smith failed to get up and down from a greenside bunker for a bogey. Advance's John Lyda placed 3rd. The B Flight, which played from the shorter White Tees, saw some of the lowest scores posted this year. Winston-Salem's David Frye shot a 75 which just barely nipped Randleman's Fred Dodge and Rick Schliepsiek of West End by a single shot. Jamestown's Gary Chapman shot a career-low Tour round with an 80 to grab the C Flight top prize. Greg Postlethwait was 2nd with an 84, while Greensboro's Mark Campanella rounded out the top 3 with an 85.
