7th Annual Bob Mirus Memorial @ ChampionsGate

SIMPKINS GRABS SECOND WIN OF SEASON; C FLIGHT DECIDED BY 0.1 POINT;  WICKELL EARNS FIRST WIN IN D FLIGHT

The seventh annual Bob Mirus Memorial was held at ChampionsGate on the International Course.  We used the modified Stableford scoring system for this event.

Paul Simpkins won his second straight tournament.  After winning at Victoria Hills in May and then missing the major at Reunion, he came back just as hot as before to claim the Championship flight in the Bob Mirus Memorial @ ChampionsGate.  .  He finished +3.3 over his quota.  Chad Frank was next at +2.6.  Cory Walker rounded out the top three with +0.9.

Five players matched or exceded their quota in A flight.  John Marshall and Ed Paterniti finished 1-2.  John was +3.7 and Ed came in at +3.2.  Steve Cleary, +0.7 and Kevin Wilkey, +0.4 were next.  Dennis Cargo was fifth after scoring exactly his quota.

Each player was assigned a quota to reach based on their AGT handicap index.  Players who surpassed or came the closest to their quota finished the highest.

In B flight, Dan Seidenfaden strenghthened his hold on the top spot by finishing first with +3.7.  Chuck Henderson and Bob Molsick tied for second with +3.3.  First year member Neil Corbett was fourth at +2.7.  Brian Mariani, C flight points leader, followed up his victory at Reunion with another win.  It was the closest possible finish as he edged Britt Thompson by 0.1 points for first place.

Daniel Wickell captured his first victory in D flight by playing his best round of the year.  He finished with a tour best +9.3.  Dan Salik also played his best round of the year and it was good for second place as he finished +7.1.  George Aylsworth equalled his quota on the number and was third.

Steve Maddox took top honors in Senior Championship at +1.6.  Senior A belonged to another first year player, Brian Crook Sr.  He finished at +3.8.  Ed Paterniti was next with +3.2.  Senior B saw Bob Molsick and Chuck Henderson go to a playoff for the title.  It lasted all of one hole as Bob came out on top.
