Orange County National played host to our final major of the 2013 season
August 17-18. The Panther Lake and Crooked Cat courses, host to multiple PGA
Tour Qualifying Schools, were a great challenge to our members all weekend.
With only two events left--August 31 at LPGA and September 14 at
ChampionsGate--to qualify for the Tour/Senior Tour Championships at Hilton Head
and Pinehurst players battled their way up the Points Standings list.
Chad
Frank Shoots 68-72 at Orange County National
Championship Flight: Chad Frank
continued his domination of the Championship flight with rounds of
68-72 for a 4-under total 140 to outdistance runner-up John
Bessette. Bessette carded solid rounds of 70-74 for
even par 144. Cory Walker was third at 151. Al
Clerico won the second day money game we play at our 2-day events by
posting a 77 to edge past Wayne Zeigler on a scorecard
match.

Walker Wins Senior Championship at OCN
Senior Championship Flight: Cory Walker
also plays in senior Championship and his 151 total of rounds of 76-75
beat Bill Foster by three.
A Flight: He tied for second in the Bob Mirus
Memorial, the season's first major in May, but Mark Farrow
opened with a 72 at Crooked Cat on Saturday and followed with a solid
78 on Sunday at Panter Lake to win this major with a total of 150.
Donald Dunivant shot steady rounds of 76-77 to finish second at
153 . Dennis Cargo (76-78) and Michel Dion
(75-79) tied for third another stroke back at 154. Robbie
Robinson won the second day money game with 77.
Senior A Flight: Donald
Dunivant and Michel Dion also compete in senior A and
finished 1,2,3, respectively.
B Flight: Jim Kenney and
Mike Salik needed a playoff in B flight to decide who got the
crystal. They each completed 36 holes with identical scores of 78-80-158. It
didn't last long as Mike prevailed on the first extra hole to claim his first
victory of the season. Rex Hyder was third with 161 and points
leader Mike Ferretti recorded another top five finish with
164 to stay in first place for the season. Micheal Coyle took
second day money after an 84.
Senior B-Flight: Brad Bettin
squeezed out a one stroke win over Steven Marker on
rounds of 86-89. Marker posted 89-87. Jerry Snead (179) took
third. Jerry plays out of the Raleigh tour.
C Flight: Chuck Jaqueth,
wielding a new putter, held of a charging Joe Porter
to cpature the C flight. After opening with a nice 81 Chuck
came back with 85 on Sunday. Porter opened with 86 on
Saturday and shot a nice 82 on Sunday to finish 2 shots back. It was
Chuck's first major victory on tour.. Dan Podawitz
took third with 171. Jay Freeman finished fourth
(173). Second day money went to Dan Salik after a Sunday
85.
D Flight: Joe Sanchez led the
way in an exciting D flight with 92-90. Rich Williams took
second place on a scorecard match with Chris Twohig. They
finished one stroke back on 183.
