Cooper Gets First Win on Tour; Morrison, Smith and Campbell Make It Win Number Two-in-a Row

DeBary, FL – Ron Cooper survived a rare and unusual three-putt to record a 78 and his first win on the Senior Amateur Golf Tour of North Central Florida at the DeBary Golf and Country Club course yesterday (Monday, August 22).  In the "A Flight" Wayne Morrison won again with a 83, Jerry Smith won the "B Flight" again with an 83, and Terry Campbell won the "C Flight" again with a 85, to make it back-to-back wins for the trio.

"I had a two-foot put for birdie, missed it, then tapped a four-incher past the cup to miss my par," Cooper said with a wry smile. "I finally sank the putt for a bogie", he added with a good-natured laugh.  The miss-cue, nor the greens aerated the week before, didn’t affect the outcome of the event as he went on to win the Championship Flight.

The shot of the day, however, belonged to Terry Campbell.  He was on the green at the par 3 number 17 and closest-to-the-pin at 34’1".  After measuring, he calmly walked up and sank the birdie putt!

Playing his first competitive round on a new knee,  Tom Grant placed second  in the "A Flight" with a 91.  In the "C Flight," John Tayman was second with a 94, and Joe Dunn placed third with a 102.

Morrison is from Macclenny, FL, Jerry Smith lives in Spring Hill, FL, Campbell is from Brooksville, FL,  Tayman is from Deltona, Dunn is from Ocala, FL, Grant travels from Oviedo, FL, and Cooper lives in The Villages, FL.

Skins in the Championship and A Flights birdie pool paid $9 each; in the B and C Flights they paid $10 each.

Closest-to-the-pin in the Championship and A Flights on number 2 was won by Scott Gourley at 3’5’; and, on number 7, Pat Monti was closest at 12’.  Closest-to-the-Pin in the B and C Flights on number 12 was won by Dunn at 5’5"; and, on number 17 by Campbell.
