ROLLINS, SMITH AND BLANKENSHIP CAPTURE MAJOR WINS
HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, FL—Jim Rollins, Jerry Smith and Chuck Blankenship captured the wins in the Senior Amateur Golf Tour of North Central Florida Spring Major at Mission Inn Golf Resort Wednesday and Thursday (April 11-12).
The two-day, 36-hole tournament highlights the start of the 2012 season and rewards competitors with double points as they progress toward the National Championship at Pinehurst, NC, in November.
Playing in the A Flight, Rollins shot the low round of the day on Wednesday with a 79 in high winds and haze. He put up an 89 on Thursday which gave him the win with a total of 168. Robbie Robinson had a rough start with a 90 the first day, but came back with an 87, totaling 177, and taking second place in a score card playoff with Steve Norell and Tom Vail.
Jerry Smith’s 79 on day one gave him the lead in the B Flight and his 86 closed out the win with a total of 165. Ted Kowalczyk placed second with 172, after shooting an 89 the first day and finishing with an 83 on the second day.
In the C Flight, Chuck Blankenship’s first round total of 87 was one shot behind leader for the day Ray Morawski’s 86. On the second day, Blankenship rolled in an 87 to take first with a total of 172. Morawski finished with a 94 and a 180 total to take second place.
Birdies in A Flight paid $35 each, both days. Birdies in B and C Flights paid $21 the first day and $26 on day two.
The next tournament is at Country Club of Ocala on April 26. Deadline to register and pay is April 19.
