ROBINSON WINS IN SUDDEN-DEATH, KOWALEWSKI GETS FIRST VICTORY; GALLAGHER AND SMITH WIN AGAIN
Dunnellon, FL—Robbie Robinson prevailed in a one-hole sudden-death playoff with Dennis Nault to win the "A Flight" in the Senior Amateur Golf Tour of North Central Florida tournament held at Juliette Falls Golf Club Thursday (Feb. 9).
Robinson and Nault finished the first 18 tied at 78. Robinson’s birdie on the first hole sealed the victory. Plus he chipped in for another birdie during play and sank a 30-footer on the last hole to send it into a playoff.
Nault, who is trying to qualify for the National Championship in Pinehurst and the Golfweek Tour Championship in Hilton Head, SC, also had two birdies during regular play.
Pat Monti came in third in the flight after a score card playoff with Dan Johnston. Both finished the day with 79’s.
First time winner Ron Kowalewski took the "C Flight" with an 89. Rounding out the scoring in the flight, was Woodie Gatehouse in second place with a 95 and Frank Murphy third with a 96.
Tom Gallagher repeated a win with a 77 in the "Championship Flight."
Another repeat winner, Jerry Smith, captured the "B Flight" with an 82; Jay Kocher placed second with an 83 and John Teller finished third shooting an 84.
Closest-to-the-pin "Championship" and "A Flight" winner was Ron Cooper on the 220-yard par 3 number 3 at 5’4". The "B" and "C Flight" was won by Dave Raybin on the 183-yard number 16 placing the ball 28’ from the cup.
Birdies in the "Championship" and "A Flights" payed $25 each; in the "B" and "C Flights" birdies paid $40 each.
The next tournament is at Timacuan Golf and Country Club in Lake Mary, FL, on Thursday, Feb. 23. Deadline to register and pay is Feb. 16.
