DAVIS WINS SUDDEN-DEATH PLAYOFF, TRUAX AND GOURLEY PLACE AT BLACK DIAMOND RANCH QUARRY COURSE
LECANTO, FL—Jay Davis posted a back-to-back tournament win by defeating Robbie Robinson (Orlando Tour) in a one hole sudden-death playoff yesterday (Monday, July 3) at the Black Diamond Ranch Quarry course.
Erich Truax placed fourth with an 85 in the A Flight and Scott Gourley placed third in the B Flight with an 86.
Both Davis and Robinson finished regular play tied at 82. When the playoff was announced, Davis said he was a little worried about going back to the first hole since he bogied the hole the first time around.
However this time, a solid drive down the left side of the fairway and then well placed second shot just off the back of the green in the first cut of fringe gave his confidence a boost.
His first putt burned the edge of the cup and gave him a two inch putt he tapped in to clinch the win.
This tournament was an intrastate event between the North Central Florida, Tampa and Orlando Tour that saw 119 players compete for a very high level of play on this well-regarded course.
The next event is July 21 at Southern Hills Plantation in Brooksville, FL. It is a challenge tournament between the Tampa Tour and the North Central Florida Tour. Deadline to register and pay is July 14.
