FIRST 2013 SENIOR TOURNAMENT WINNERS ANNOUNCED
OCALA, FL—In an unusual phenomenon, every golfer hit their first drive completely out of sight in the opening tournament of the 2013 North Central Florida Senior Amateur Golf Tour at Candler Hills Golf Club in Ocala on Saturday Jan. 26.
They were in a fog so thick, it was impossible to see where the ball landed.
But, the weather cleared, and four happy competitors walked away with first place prizes.
In the Championship Flight, Bill Foster of The Villages won with a score of 74. Foster rolled in a birdie on the ninth for a front nine 36, then came in with a 38.
The A Flight saw new member Glen Pelt of Dade City take first place with a 76. Pelt had back-to-back birdies on the sixth and seventh for a 37 on the front and closed out with a 39 on the back. Shade Smith, also a new member, placed second with a 77. Returning member Wayne Morrison was third with 79.
In the B Flight, new member Les Brightbill of The Villages placed first with an 81. He went out in 41 and then birdied the twelfth to close with a 40. New member Mike Clement placed second with an 83. Returning member Scott Gourley was third with an 87.
The C Flight, new member Miles Pilney of The Villages took first place with an 85. He shot 44 on the front and 41 on the back.
The Championship and A Flight birdie paid $140. The B and C Flights birdies paid $33.
The next tournament is at Stone Creek Golf Club in Ocala on Feb. 9. The deadline to register and pay is Sat. Feb. 2.
