Piedmont Virginia Tour has 4th Tournament of the 2014 Season
May 6, 2014
Danville, VA
13 senior amateur golfers came out today to
compete in their 4th tournament of the season which was held at
Tuscarora Golf Club in Danville. It was the last warm-up tournament before they
travel to Suffolk next week for their 1st MAJOR of the season and a
chance to win an automatic invitation to this year’s National Finals.
The only player representing the
Championship Flight this week was a guest from Charlottesville; Jim Heidel.
Having never played the course before Heidel showed Championship form in
posting the low round of the day with a 78.
The A-Flight had the tours current points’
leader Rusty Ward from N.Prince George paired up against Tom Carbone visiting
from the Charlotte,NC Tour. Carbone led by 6 at the turn before Ward used his birdie on # 13 and a triple bogey on #14 by
Carbone to bring the match even. Ward finished with 3 pars for an 88 and his
third win of the season. Carbone finished with a 90.
Tuscarora member Charlie Powell playing in
his 1st tour event of the season used his knowledge of the course
and skill to separate himself from the field in B-Flight action. Powell carded
a birdie on his 2nd hole of play to get a stroke up on 2nd
place finisher Bill Knarr from Verona. Powell finished the day with a 79 for
first place as Knarr collected 2nd with an 84.
The C-Flight once again proved to be any
ones to win. The very close competitive flights winner is rarely determined
before the final hole. Today was certainly no exception as the winner had to go
an extra hole to determine the winner. Another Tuscarora home course member
Danny Moon also playing in his 1st tournament of the tours season
finished regulation tied for first with current C-Flight National Champion
David Davis from Martinsville with 90’s. The two then proceeded to the par 5
first hole for the playoff. There Davis was able to claim the victory as Moon could
only manage a triple bogey on the extra hole. It was the defending Champions 1st
win of the new season.
The Tours next stop will be in Suffolk at
Cedar Point Country Club next Wednesday May 14th for their 1st
of 4 scheduled MAJORS of the season. Double points and automatic qualifications
to this year’s National Finals are up for grabs at each of the MAJORS.
Registration deadline for this event is Sunday May 11th. Contact

Rules Review It has been suggested that there should be a series of Rules scenarios for you to solve. So begins a series of problems titled What's the Score? Doc Miller has graciously agreed to allow me to share these with you that he has been sending since July 2009. I will include one each week. You should try to determine the answer based upon your knowledge of the Rules when ever possible and then use your Rule book to confirm. There will be no trick questions or hidden information. |
Questions from week #244 Bert and Ernie are participants in an event. Bert’s ball, which lies in the fairway, is accidentally moved by Ernie when he dropped his club.Bert’s ball must be replaced and depending upon their relationship (partners, teammates, fellow competitors, or opponents), there could be a 1-stroke penalty as a result.Decide for each situation if there is a penalty and who would get the penalty. A. If Bert and Ernie are partners in a fourball competition, then penalty to: Bert – Ernie – Neither Player. B. If Bert and Ernie are opponents in a match, then penalty to: Bert – Ernie – Neither Player. C. If Bert and Ernie are teammates each in an individual match against other players, then penalty to: Bert – Ernie – Neither Player. D. If Bert and Ernie are fellow competitors in a stroke play event, then penalty to: Bert – Ernie – Neither Player. Answers A. Penalty to Bert (R18-2a). B. Penalty to Ernie (R18-3b). C. Neither player. Teammates would be deemed an outside agency (Definition: Outside Agency, R18-1). D. Neither player. Again, the two players are deemed to be outside agencies to one another. (Definitions: Competitor, Outside Agency, R18-1). |
Where Will You Be in the 2014 Season Ending Point Standings Race?
There are only two ways to get to the year ending National Tournament - win one of the four majors or be one of the Top 15 point earners in your flight.
As you plot your tour schedule, be cognizant of the fact, only the top 15 are guaranteed access. Usually, most flight races are tight and depends on how well you play and of course how many tour dates you participate in during 2014.
Do you know how many tournaments you will need to play and what place you will need to finish in each tournament to ensure you have your automatic invitation?
I am very pleased to announce the addition of Planet Fitness to our list of Tour Sponsors. The overall points Champion for our upcoming season will receive a Black Card Membership for 1 year to Planet Fitness. What a Great way to keep toned up for your peak performance.

Tour Weather Guidelines
Primarily, we adhere to the same guidelines that the PGA Tour uses: If Primarily, the course is open, we're going to play.
The only exception to this is that I'll never put any of you in harm's way during an event because of dangerous weather. (i.e. - lightening or severe cold and wetness).
In other words, I won't let the course "bully" us into playing where an unsafe condition might exist.
Because I arrive at every event at least two hours prior to the start time and I generally have to leave my house at least an hour before that to get to the course, there is no sense calling me just before the event, because I won't be at the office. The best avenue to take is to call the course if the weather seems threatening.
If you are on the roster for the event, and you do not get a cancellation notice from the course after calling them, you are expected to show up in time for the scheduled shotgun start. Kenny
