Senior Amateur Tour debuts April 14th at The Manor !

Piedmont, VA – The Senior Amateur Golf Tour kicks off its 4th season in Virginia. The tour will hosts a lineup of local tournaments beginning April 14th at The Manor GC in Farmville and ends October 27th at Goodyear Golf Club in Danville.  Nationally the tour has grown to 15 states with over 1000 members expected to compete this season.

The tour is open to all golf levels of senior amateurs who are 50 years or older. Members are placed in one of four flights based on handicaps. Flights are: Championship (0-3.9 handicap), A Flight (4-8.9), B Flight (9-13.9) and C Flight (14-18.9).

Tournament format is gross stroke play, with USGA rules in effect. A software program tracks each player’s handicap to ensure participants are placed in their proper flight.  Once you begin playing on tour the integrity of each flight is kept and many players will be moved up in flights during the season.

Local tour director Kenny Powell has assembled a schedule of 20 tournaments on some of the state’s premier private country clubs. In addition to the opening and closing venues, tour stops will include:Cedar Point Country Club, Poplar Grove Golf Club, Great Oaks Country Club, Emporia Country Club, Brickshire Golf Club,The Club at Viniterra, Colonial Heritage Golf Club, Hanging Rock Golf Club, Lake Chesdin Country Club, The Crossings Golf Club, Sleepy Hole Golf Club, Riverfront Golf Club,  Stoney Creek at Wintergreen Resort,  University of Virginia’s Birdwood GC, Olde Mill of Groundhog Mountain,  Draper Valley Golf Club, Chatmoss Country Club,  and Danville Golf Club.

Those who finish in the top 15 in points in their flight receive invitations to participate the 2015 National Senior Amateur Tour Championship in November. All of last year’s results are currently posted on the web page (www.senioramateurgolftour.net)

Tour membership fee is $85 and includes a tour gift pack, plus reduced rates on weekly practice rounds. Entry fees are $60-$80 per event, and include cart and green fees, range balls and prizes. Earlybird December 2014 through January 31, 2015 memberships are available for reduced rate of $60.Also Tidewater Tour and returning members may join for $65 at any time.  Golfers who are 50 years or older may join the tour at any time during the year.  For information call Kenny Powell at, (434) 792-3728, or sign up at www.senioramateurgolftour.net.

Where Will You Be in the 2015 Season Ending Point Standings Race?

There are only two ways to get to the year ending National Tournament - win one of the four majors or be one of the Top 15 point earners in your flight.

As you plot your tour schedule, be cognizant of the fact, only the top 15 are guaranteed access. Usually, most flight races are tight and depends on how well you play and of course how many tour dates you participate in during 2015.

Do you know how many tournaments you will need to play and what place you will need to finish in each tournament to ensure you have your automatic invitation?
