came down but the scores rose today at the breathtaking Sam Snead designed
Poplar Grove Golf Club. Seventeen Piedmont Virginia Senior Amateur Golf Tour
members ascended on the beautiful but challenging hidden gem today only to see
the course surrender only 6 birdies to the entire field. It was quite a
different day from the 32 birdie day in last week’s tournament at Draper
Valley. Players stated that you should be given a stroke per hole just for the
distraction of the courses scenic views.</font></font></p><p><font face="Times New Roman" size="3">
<br></font></p><p style="margin: 0in 0in 8pt"><font face="Calibri"><span><font size="3"> </font></span><font size="3">The Tours current point’s
leader Rusty Ward from North Prince George led the A-Flight with one birdie for
a score of 82. It was Wards sixth Tour win in 11 starts this season and his second
in a row. Five strokes back were Dean Adams and Larry Maitland with 87’s tied
for 2</font><sup><font size="2">nd</font></sup><font size="3"> place. </font></font></p><p><font face="Times New Roman" size="3">

Hurt playing in the B-Flight carded the low round of the day with an 81. It was
his 3</font><sup><font size="2">rd</font></sup><font size="3"> Tour win in a row and his 4</font><sup><font size="2">th</font></sup><font size="3"> for the season.
Rice stated following the round that 81 must be a good number for him because 3
of his wins have come with that total. In 2</font><sup><font size="2">nd</font></sup><font size="3"> place only a stroke
back was Jerry Delbridge from Emporia at 82.</font></font></p><p><font face="Times New Roman" size="3">

National Champion David Davis from Martinsville was not to be denied today as
he posted an 82 for the top spot today. Davis finished 2</font><sup><font size="2">nd</font></sup><font size="3"> last week
by a single stroke but took the lead today on his 6</font><sup><font size="2">th</font></sup><font size="3"> hole and never
trailed afterward. Davis carded 10 pars and only 1 hole over bogie on his way
to his 2</font><sup><font size="2">nd</font></sup><font size="3"> tour win of the year. Finishing in 2</font><sup><font size="2">nd</font></sup><font size="3"> with an
86 was Don Carson from Farmville .</font></font></p><p><font face="Times New Roman" size="3">
