EVEN THROUGH GUSTY WIND CONDITIONS 11 PLAYERS BREAK 80 AT TUSCARORA COUNTRY CLUB
Danville, VA.--- It was the Piedmont Virginia Senior Amateur Golf Tour’s 3rd Tournament of the season and after a frosty start the scores heated up fast at Tuscarora Country Club with 43 birdies being recorded by the 31 players in the field.
Championship Flight: Harry Lea of Danville; making his first appearance on the tour used a 3 birdie performance to card a 2 over par 74 for first place. Lea beat past Tour winners Richard Suggs and John Franklin by 2 strokes as they both tied with 76’s. Sugg’s who last won at Spring Creek used a near Hole in One shot to also win a closest to the Pin prize. Terry Towler finished 4th with a 79.
A Flight: The A flight continued to contest the Championship guys by placing 6 of their 12 players in the under 80 bracket. Leading the way with 4 birdies on his card for a 74 was Phillip Clay of Evington. In winning Clay picked up his 2nd win in a row. Chris Salmon of Danville took a second place finish with a 76. These two were followed very closely by Raymond Newman, J.A. Devin, Keith Myers, and Kevin Kiser; all who recorded 78’s.
B FLIGHT: The B flight was led by 2 Danville players playing on their home course. Charlie Morris Powell picked up his 1st victory of the season with a 76. Robert Agee making his debut on the tour took second place with an 80.
C FLIGHT: The top 3 places in the C Flight were once again taken by the same 3 past finishers; just the positions were changed some. David Davis of Martinsville picked up his 2nd win of the season with his 82. Two Huddleston players Bart Truesdell - 86 and Tim Stirling – 91 took second and third.
