Chatmoss Country Club Brings Out Season Low Scores
Tuesday August 20, 2013
The sun truly came out from behind
the clouds today at Chatmoss Country Club in Martinsville for the flight
leaders in each of the Piedmont Virginia Senior Amateur Golf Tours flights; as
they all recorded their lowest rounds of the year.
In the A Flight Rusty Ward from
Hopewell used one of his 2 birdies of the day on the 18th hole to
hold off the charge of the other 3 competitors in his flight for his 3 win of
the season in 6 starts. Ward stated that he had not looked at the scorecard
totals until the 18th tee box where he discovered he was tied with
Raymond Newman and 1 up over Barry Shea ; both from Danville. Their whole
foursome had been playing very well all day; so he figured it would take a
birdie to win. With the other 3 players all collecting pars on the finishing
hole; Wards birdie gave him his lowest round of the year and the single stroke
victory.
In B Flight Tour play Sam Moser
from South Boston used a 4 birdie attack to separate himself from the field.
His one under par round of 71 was not only his
lowest round of the year but was also the lowest recorded on the Tour this season.
Moser who carries a 9.4 tour handicap and plays out of Greens Folly had
previously had a low round of 72 back in June on his home course. It was Moser’s 1st Tour win of the
season. Finishing in 2nd place with an 81 was Charlie Powell from
Danville.
Another player had his Tour season
low round for a 1st place finish in the C Flight. Jim Wyatt from
Emporia ; playing in only his 2nd tournament since joining the Tour
bettered his previous showing by 9 strokes today with his 85 for the win. Wyatt
who had no birdies in his round was able to shoot a solid 4 over par back nine
total to hold off 2nd place finisher Roy Hodges. Hodges trailed
Wyatt by 3 strokes at the turn tried to rally a comeback when he quickly tied
the leader by recording an Eagle 2 on the par 4
eleventh hole. His rally fell short with Wyatt making par on the next 2 holes
as Hodges fell to double bogey and bogey for the final margin. Hodges finished
2nd with an 88.

season this will probably be our last opportunity to play there. Entry fee is
only $70 and registration should be made by August 27th.

Questions from week #210 Tom’s ball on the green is marked with a medium sized coin. Bob, who is to putt first, uses his putter to press down Tom’s coin. Decide which of the following statements are true: 1. If Tom and Bob are opponents in match and if Bob is acting without Tom’s authority there is no penalty unless the coin is moved when pressed down. 2. If Tom and Bob are opponents in a match and if Bob is acting with Tom’s authority there is no penalty to either player even if the coin is moved when pressed down provided it is replaced on the correct spot. 3. If Tom and Bob are fellow competitors, whether or not Bob has Tom’s permission, if the coin is moved when pressed down there is no penalty to either player provided the coin is replaced on the correct spot. 4. If Tom and Bob are partners, if the coin is moved when pressed down, Tom is penalized one stroke and the coin must be replaced on the correct spot.
Answers 1 is True 2 is True 3 is True 4 is True Obviously, the relationship of the two players involved matters as does whether or not the coin is moved when pressed: - If the players involved are opponents, and the coin when pressed does not move, there is no penalty whether or not the opponent had the player’s permission.
- If the players involved are opponents, and the opponent is proceeding with the permission of the player, there is no penalty if the coin is moved, provided it is replaced.
- If the players involved are opponents, and the opponent is proceeding without the permission of the player, and if the coin moves when pressed, the opponent is penalized one stroke and the coin must be replaced.
- If the players involved are fellow competitors, there is no penalty whether or not permission is granted or whether or not the coin is moved. If moved, it must be replaced.
- If the players are partners, permission is not needed. If the coin is moved, the partner (whose coin is moved) is penalized one stroke and the coin must be replaced.
Any failure to replace the coin on the proper spot could cause the player whose ball is marked, to play from a wrong place—Loss of hole in Match Play, 2-stroke Penalty in Stroke Play. The Rules do not state who may or must replace a moved marker, only that the result must accurately mark the position for the ball. References: Rule 20-1; Decision 20-1/4.5 |
