WELCOME 2014 Senior Tour CELEBRATING THE 20th SEASON OF THE AMATEUR GOLFWEEK TOUR! ================================================================ The Challenge Golf Club | |
A four-star rated course by Golf Digest, this 6935-yard (from the back tees) championship par 72 layout features some beautiful holes in all of golf. The course was created by Larry Waggoner and built on wooded rolling farmland adjacent to the Haw River. The farmland was part of the Waggoner family Farm (Hideaway Farms) and provides a scenic round as well as chance for the risk takers to score well. The Challenge lives up to its name by offering all Tour members a great test of ability and shot-making. In addition to the greens, the perfectly manicured bermuda fairways are defined by lakes, thick hardwood forests and well-placed sand bunkers. This is a favorite of both the Triad, Pinehurst and Triangle Golfers. - Voted 2nd Best New Course in North Carolina by NC
Magazine - Best New Public Course in the Piedmont by Carolinas
Magazine - Currently Rated Four-Star Golf Digest Rating
- Consistently voted as one of the Top 50 courses in North
Carolina - Host of several Mid-Am Qualifiers

"Improve your golf mental toughness 10-fold" Every golfer has heard the saying "It's all in your head" or "Golf is 90% mental" or "Golf is the most mentally demanding sport in the world." Yet what do golfers do about it? Well, most often absolutley nothing! Not necessarily because they don't want to, but sometimes golfers actually think the mental game doesn't matter to them! Click Here to Unlock Your Mind and Shoot Better Golf EVERY golfer can benefit from increasing their mental toughness and harnessing the full power of thier mind! Many golfers naively get stuck into thinking that the mental game only matters for elite players or pros who make a living golfing. Nonsense! EVERY golfer needs to use their mind properly. It is your mind that determines how well you learn when taking lessons. (and this training course is packed with accelerated learning techniques that will have you absorbing more from lessons) It is your mind that will allow you to set up to the ball correctly and commit to your swing (or not!). It is your mind that will either stay focused under pressure and get you to make a smooth, fluid stroke when you need to drain an 8 footer for the win, or have you choking like a dog and collapsing like a house of cards when the heat is on!

=============================================================== THE SENIOR AMATEUR GOLF TOUR DEVILS RIDGE COUNTRY CLUB TOP FIVE SCORES BY FLIGHT |
DUBIOUS "FIRST" FOR SENIOR AMATEUR TOUR Holly Springs, NC March 13, 2014 Once again, chilly temperatures and gusty winds took their toll on the scoring efforts of the Senior Amateur Golf Tour members who braved the elements at Devils Ridge Country Club today. "We just can't seem to get a break with the weather" said Tour veteran Johnny Adams. Not only did the players have to contend with the cold and wind, but the course had also been pounded the previous night with a heavy rainfall that made the course play soggy and long. Largely due to these circumstances, not a single player in the entire field broke 80. In the 16 year history of the Raleigh/Pinehurst and Triad Tour combined events, this was the only tournament in which there was not a single score registered in the 70s or better. "We had some of the top players in their respective flights shooting in the 90s - right up to the Championship Flight", noted Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck. "Some of these guys are capable of shooting in the 60s". The Championship and A Flights were won by identical scores of 80 - High Point's Joey Moffitt in the Champ Flight and Pinehurst's Chuck Taubersmith in A. The B Flight winner, first-year Tour member Dick Kuehl of Sanford shot an 84, one stroke better than 12 year Tour regular Benny Miller of Raleigh. Nobody in the C Flight broke 90, but that was the exact score turned in by Tour rookie Jim Prouty of Pittsboro who edged a trio of players - Dwight Davis, also from Pittsboro, Fayetteville's Ted Harris and James Eatmon of Sims by a single shot. "The advance weather forecast for next week's event at The Challenge in Graham is much better than what we've gotten so far this season", stated Hallenbeck. "I have openings in that event and any amateur golfer over 50 interested in competing there can contact me at 336-495-6556, or by email at behgolf@aol.com THE SENIOR AMATEUR GOLF TOUR DEVILS RIDGE COUNTRY CLUB EVENT TOP FIVE SCORES BY FLIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP (6430 yds) Joey Moffitt, High Point 80 Johnny Adams, Cary 86 Trip Barclift, Raleigh 88 Allen Lee, Pinehurst 90 Eddie Johnson, Boonville 90 A FLIGHT (5906 yds) Chuck Taubersmith, Pinehurst 80 Wilson Shelton, Madison 82 Gus Alford, Zebulon 84 Steve Smith, Pinehurst 85 Mike Dillon, Clayton 85 B FLIGHT (5906 yds) Dick Kuehl, Sanford 84 Benny Miller, Raleigh 85 James Jones, Raleigh 88 Louis Herndon, Graham 88 Glenn Wright, Pittsboro 90 Chuck Smith, Sanford 90 James Dockery, Southern Pines 90 C FLIGHT (5906 yds) Jim Prouty, Pittsboro 90 Dwight Davis, Pittsboro 91 Ted Harris, Fayetteville 91 James Eatmon, Sims 91 Doug Harvey, Knightdale 92 |

=============================================================== Rules Review It has been suggested that there should be a series of Rules scenarios for you to solve. So begins a series of problems titled What's the Score? Doc Miller has graciously agreed to allow me to share these with you that he has been sending since July 2009. I will include one each week. You should try to determine the answer based upon your knowledge of the Rules when ever possible and then use your Rule book to confirm. There will be no trick questions or hidden information.

Question from week #239 Taylor’s ball has come to rest on a part of the course which serves as a foot path with wooden steps connecting the cart parking area with the approach to the green. The area between the widely spaced steps is covered with wood mulch. Pick the best answer. A. Taylor must play the ball as it lies unless one of the steps interferes with her stroke or stance. B. Taylor may treat the entire area as an immovable obstruction and may take relief under R24-2b. C. Taylor may play the ball as it lies, and may remove select pieces of mulch if they are not solidly imbedded as they are deemed loose impediments. Taylor must be careful not to move the ball in the process. (R23-1) D. Taylor may proceed under either option B or C above.
Answer: D is the most complete answer. Both answers B and C are options for how Taylor proceeds. Answer A is flat out wrong. ============================================== |

=============================================================== TTour Weather Guidelines Primarily, we adhere to the same guidelines that the PGA Tour uses: If Primarily, the course is open, we're going to play. The only exception to this is that I'll never put any of you in harm's way during an event because of dangerous weather. (i.e. - lightening or severe cold and wetness). In other words, I won't let the course "bully" us into playing where an unsafe condition might exist. Because I arrive at every event at least two hours prior to the start time and I generally have to leave my house at least an hour before that to get to the course, there is no sense calling me just before the event, because I won't be at the office. The best avenue to take is to call the course if the weather seems threatening. If you are on the roster for the event, and you do not get a cancellation notice from the course after calling them, you are expected to show up in time for the scheduled shotgun start. Bruce |
