Sapona CC was established and designed by Ellis Maples in 1967 and is set amid the hardwood forests of the Piedmont Triad. Most of you know that the Maples family has a storied golf past dating back to the original courses in Pinehurst and their classic design principles can be seen throughout the Sapona’s golf experience. Ellis Maples’s creative work and shotmaker's design will require you to have your course management 'A' game on in this week. You will need to think your way through every shot, exactly as golf was intended. There are good scores to be had at Sapona but only if you know your distances, execute your shot to make sure your ball lands on the correct side of every green and with every approach stay below the hole. You can either be in the winners circle or expect a long and frustrating day. Do yourself a favor, play this course this year and hopefully you will enjoy a low score. "Improve your golf mental toughness 10-fold"
Every golfer has heard the saying "It's all in your head" or "Golf is 90% mental" or "Golf is the most mentally demanding sport in the world." Yet what do golfers do about it? Well, most often absolutley nothing! Not necessarily because they don't want to, but sometimes golfers actually think the mental game doesn't matter to them! Click Here to Unlock Your Mind and Shoot Better Golf EVERY golfer can benefit from increasing their mental toughness and harnessing the full power of thier mind! Many golfers naively get stuck into thinking that the mental game only matters for elite players or pros who make a living golfing. Nonsense! EVERY golfer needs to use their mind properly. It is your mind that determines how well you learn when taking lessons. (and this training course is packed with accelerated learning techniques that will have you absorbing more from lessons) It is your mind that will allow you to set up to the ball correctly and commit to your swing (or not!). It is your mind that will either stay focused under pressure and get you to make a smooth, fluid stroke when you need to drain an 8 footer for the win, or have you choking like a dog and collapsing like a house of cards when the heat is on!
Click Here to Unlock Your Mind and Shoot Better Golf "When you have a chance to shoot the lowest score of your life, you won't choke - You Will Go Low!"

ROBINETTE WINS 3-MAN SENIOR TOUR "MAJOR" PLAYOFF AT ANDERSON CREEK Spring Lake, NC August 21, 2014 It was only fitting that the A Flight sudden-death playoff ended with Jackson Springs' Ken Robinette firing a birdie on the 1st extra hole after he, Chapel Hill's Bill Martinson and Raleigh's Rick LaFata all finished their regulation play with identical 75s. It was Robinette's 3rd birdie of the day and it was enough to secure the win. The A Flight had some tough competition throughout the day as 6 players finished within 2 strokes of the winning score in this Major Championship event. Craig Sturdivant of Sanford had a much easier time of it in the Championship Flight as his 2-under par 70 was 5 shots clear of runner-up David Coolidge of Greensboro. It was Sturdivant's 7th win of the season and his 2nd Major Championship victory. Another Tour member continued his winning ways as James Eatmon of Sims took the C Flight crown with an 85 that was 1 shot clear of Rocky Mount's Steve High. "Both of these guys have been a factor in just about every event in which they've competed', said Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck. "It doesn't surprise me when either one of them is near the top of the leaderboard". Two B Flight members managed to break 80, led by Durham's Mike Allison with a solid 74. He was 4 shots better than Larry Ringen of Pinehurst. "I'm gonna play A Flight from now on", stated Allison as he took his 1st place prize. "I think Mike will do fine moving up a flight', said Hallenbeck. "He's got the game to play with the big boys". The Tour will be taking next week off for the Labor Day Holiday and resume play at Sapona Country Club in Lexington on September 4. There are openings available for that event. =============================================================== Rules Review It has been suggested that there should be a series of Rules scenarios for you to solve. So begins a series of problems titled What's the Score? Doc Miller has graciously agreed to allow me to share these with you that he has been sending since July 2009. I will include one each week. You should try to determine the answer based upon your knowledge of the Rules when ever possible and then use your Rule book to confirm. There will be no trick questions or hidden information.

Question from week #264 Allen Rench is playing in his club’s stroke play qualifier for the club’s match play championship. His tee shot on the par four 11th has come to rest about two inches inside the lateral water hazard that guards the right side of the hole. The ball is clearly visible but some briars and other overhanging growth from plants inside the hazard may impede his stroke. He moves about four yards behind the spot of his ball and selects a similar spot on the margin. Standing outside the hazard, Allen tries several practice swings hitting through briars and plants which are rooted within and overhang outside the margin of the hazard, but is careful not to hit any material located within the vertical margins of the hazard. Satisfied with what he must do, Allen approaches his ball and attempts a stroke. Unfortunately, his first attempt is truncated as he comes up short of the ball when his club got completely tangled in briars on the downswing. His second attempt is more successful and he advances the ball up the fairway. From there Allen takes three more strokes to complete play of the hole. Allen’s score for the 11th hole is: A. 5 B. 6 C. 7 D. 8
Answer B. Allen made six strokes at his ball and had no penalty strokes. He did not breach R13-2 nor R13-4. When taking his practice swings he did not in any way improve the position or lie of the ball, the area of his intended stance or swing, or the line of play. Any improvement he made to the growing material in the path of his swing was the result of a stroke and is permitted by the Rules. You may note he was careful not to disturb any growing material inside the vertical margin of the hazard. This was an unnecessary precaution, but understandable under the conditions. In taking a practice swing in a hazard he his permitted to touch grass, bush, tree or any growing thing inside the hazard with his practice swing. (See Note to Rule 13-4.) He just may not ground his club in doing so. |

=============================================================== TTour Weather Guidelines Primarily, we adhere to the same guidelines that the PGA Tour uses: If Primarily, the course is open, we're going to play. The only exception to this is that I'll never put any of you in harm's way during an event because of dangerous weather. (i.e. - lightening or severe cold and wetness). In other words, I won't let the course "bully" us into playing where an unsafe condition might exist. Because I arrive at every event at least two hours prior to the start time and I generally have to leave my house at least an hour before that to get to the course, there is no sense calling me just before the event, because I won't be at the office. The best avenue to take is to call the course if the weather seems threatening. If you are on the roster for the event, and you do not get a cancellation notice from the course after calling them, you are expected to show up in time for the scheduled shotgun start.
