CHAMP FLIGHT PLAYOFF, SCORING RECORD IN SR. TOUR EVENT
Greensboro, NC
(July 17, 2014) - A perfect golf course and excellent weather
generally result in some pretty good scoring conditions for members of the
Senior Amateur Golf Tour. Such was the case today in the Tour event held
at Greensboro Country Club, the Carlson Farm Course.
James Adams of Cary and
Winston Salem's Gene Queen both finished regulation play in the Championship
Flight with 2-under scores of 70. They headed back out on the course for
a sudden-death playoff in which Adams emerged the winner by posting a birdie on
their 3rd playoff hole. "As good as these guys were playing today,
it was no surprise that it was going to take at least a birdie to pull this
out", stated Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck.
Another player who able
to post more than his share of birdies today was Yadkinville's Tom
Fagerli. Playing in the A Flight, Fagerli hit from tees that were
approximately 300 yards shorter than those hit from by the Championship Flight
members. His 67 represented the lowest score ever shot by an A Flight member in
the 16 year history of the Tour. "Tom has one of the best swings
I've ever seen on our Tour", noted Hallenbeck. "He was due for
a 'breakout' round. Raleigh's George Paris, who's 72 would normally have
been the class of the field, finished 5 behind Fagerli.
The B and C Flight
winners had to go low as well to capture the top prizes. In B
Flight action, Homer Baker of High Point shot a 74 for a 2 shot
margin of victory over both Pinehurst's Larry Ringen and Dawson Strider from
Advance. Knightdale's Doug Harvey was the C Flight king after posting an
81. He was 3 shots clear of Greensboro's Len Bullock.
The Senior Amateur Tour
tees it up again next week on July 24 with their annual visit to Chapel Ridge
Golf Club in Pittsboro. There are a small number of openings still
available for that event.
