2013 SENIOR AMATEUR GOLF TOUR MARCH 15, 2013 DEVILS RIDGE COUNTRY CLUB ----- |
Devils Ridge Country Club
Don’t miss playing this private course in Holly Springs. Devil’s Ridge Country Club is always in pristine condition, is a great course to play and one that can yield some very low scores. It was built on rolling terrain with convex fairways (seldom a level lie but balls funnel to middle of the fairway). The course is lined with towering hardwoods, and the elevated greens have moderate undulations and can be fast but true. The signature hole is #17, a 388-yard, par 4, with an elevated green that has a twenty-foot drop off the back side. Make sure you select the correct club for your approach. This is a perennial favorite and always bring out the best in your round. To register and to sign-up to play, call or email Bruce at 336- 495-6556 or behgolf@aol.com.

"Improve your golf mental toughness 10-fold" Every golfer has heard the saying "It's all in your head" or "Golf is 90% mental" or "Golf is the most mentally demanding sport in the world." Yet what do golfers do about it? Well, most often absolutley nothing! Not necessarily because they don't want to, but sometimes golfers actually think the mental game doesn't matter to them! Click Here to Unlock Your Mind and Shoot Better Golf EVERY golfer can benefit from increasing their mental toughness and harnessing the full power of thier mind! Many golfers naively get stuck into thinking that the mental game only matters for elite players or pros who make a living golfing. Nonsense! EVERY golfer needs to use their mind properly. It is your mind that determines how well you learn when taking lessons. (and this training course is packed with accelerated learning techniques that will have you absorbing more from lessons) It is your mind that will allow you to set up to the ball correctly and commit to your swing (or not!). It is your mind that will either stay focused under pressure and get you to make a smooth, fluid stroke when you need to drain an 8 footer for the win, or have you choking like a dog and collapsing like a house of cards when the heat is on!
Click Here to Unlock Your Mind and Shoot Better Golf "When you have a chance to shoot the lowest score of your life you won't choke - You Will Go Low!"

PLAYOFF DRAMA HIGHLIGHTS SENIOR TOUR EVENT Foxfire Village, NC March 14, 2013 In an event in which winners were determined by sudden death playoffs in 3 of 4 flights, the Senior Amateur Golf Tour tournament played today at Foxfire Country Club, did not lack drama. Probably the most interesting of the playoffs occurred in the A Flight. Zebulon's Brent Massey, playing in his 1st event of the 2013 season, tied long-time Tour veteran William Hiner of Pinehurst with identical 76s during regulation play. On their very 1st playoff hole Hiner hit 2 excellent shots, and was left with a 3 foot birdie putt to seal the victory, but was unable to jar it. Given a "second life", Massey was quick to take advantage of the situation with a birdie of his own on the 2nd playoff hole to collect the winners prize. In the Championship Flight it also took Greensboro's Randy Jones 2 holes to come away with a victory over Ron Hockensmith of Whispering Pines. Jones was simply steady with 2 straight pars to seal the deal. Dennis Bryant of Sophia had to overcome 2 opponents for his C Flight playoff win as his 87 in regulation play tied him with North Myrtle Beach's Mike Hinson and Kernersville's Don Brown. A par on the 3rd extra hole was enough to secure his win. While not requiring a playoff to determine a B Flight winner, it did take a particularly competitve score as Greensboro's Randy Robbins edged last week's winner, Tom Kubla of Pinehurst, by a single stroke - 76 to 77. "It was once again cold and windy for most of the day", stated Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck. "Under those conditions all the winning scores were quite impressive". The next Senior Amateur Golf Tour event, which is open to any amateur golfer over 50, will be held at Devils Ridge Country Club in Holly Springs next Thursday, 3/21. Any senior interested in competing in that event can call Hallenbeck at 336-495-6556 or email him at behgolf@aol.com. Rules Review It has been suggested that there should be a series of Rules scenarios for you to solve. So begins a series of problems titled What's the Score? Doc Miller has graciously agreed to allow me to share these with you that he has been sending since July 2009.I will include one each week. You should try to determine the answer based upon your knowledge of the Rules when ever possible and then use your Rule book to confirm. There will be no trick questions or hidden information. After a few minutes of searching, a ball was located in a very odd situation. See the photo below:As it lay inside the rake housing, the ball was identified as his ball. How should Al proceed? A. Al must mark the position of the ball, lift the rake and remove the ball from inside the rake head. He should then place the ball as close as possible to the spot on the grass directly below where it was originally trapped inside the rake. B. Al need not mark the position of the ball. He should lift the rake and remove the ball from inside the rake head. He should then place the ball as close as possible to the spot on the grass directly below where it was originally trapped inside the rake. C. Al must mark the position of the ball, lift the rake and remove the ball from inside the rake head. He should then drop the ball as close as possible to the spot on the grass directly below where it was originally trapped inside the rake. D. Al need not mark the position of the ball. He should lift the rake and remove the ball from inside the rake head. He should then drop the ball as close as possible to the spot on the grass directly below where it was originally trapped inside the rake. Answer Crazy things can happen along the way to the bar and the Rules cover most of them. The correct answer is D. This photo happens to be taken with a cell phone by the individual whose ball ended up in the position you see, un-staged, actual situation. This opening is much smaller than the hole and to do this you can only approach the rake from a limited angle to achieve this result. These guys are good! Anyway. The rake is a moveable obstruction and the ball is “in or on” the obstruction. This is covered under R24-1b. The Rule does not require the ball to first be marked. It is not a bad idea however, as the player is responsible for dropping on or as near as possible to the spot directly under where Al’s ball sits in the rake. And, yes, Al can clean the ball before dropping. |

TTour Weather Guidelines Primarily, we adhere to the same guidelines that the PGA Tour uses: If the course is open, we're going to play. The only exception to this is that I'll never put any of you in harm's way during an event because of dangerous weather. (i.e. - lightening or severe cold and wetness). In other words, I won't let the course "bully" us into playing where an unsafe condition might exist. Because I arrive at every event at least two hours prior to the start time and I generally have to leave my house at least an hour before that to get to the course, there is no sense calling me just before the event, because I won't be at the office. The best avenue to take is to call the course if the weather seems threatening. If you are on the roster for the event, and you do not get a cancellation notice from the course after calling them, you are expected to show up in time for the scheduled shotgun start. Bruce |
