2013 SENIOR AMATEUR GOLF TOUR SENIOR TOUR FINALS SIGN-UP ----- |
The Dormie Club - One of the courses to be played. Guys: Just a reminder - if you are planning on attending the Senior Tour National Finals on November 11 & 12, you must register on-line at senioramateurgolftour.net The information regarding the Finals is on the main homepage of the site (not on the Raleigh or Triad Tour homepage). On that page you will find all info necessary re: costs, itinerary, courses you'll be playing, lodging discounts, and most importantly sign-up. Due to the fact we expect the largest field in our history, the logistics involved with an event of this size requires that all attendees register at one site. Even if you have signed up with me (and/or paid me), you will still have to go to the website and register there. The top 15 members listed in the Points Standings for each Tour are automatically qualified to enter. Keep in mind however, that I don't count the winners of any of the 4 Majors or our mid-season 2-Day event against that number. Also, not everyone who qualifies will opt to go. Consequently, there will be spots open for players who are just outside that top 15 number. If you want to attend, but your points standings postion has you outside the top 15, call me at 336-495-6556 or email me at behgolf@aol.com, and we'll discuss your individual situation. Let's sign-up & kick Charlotte's butt!!!!! I would like to thank all of you for a great season this year. I Look forward to seeing you at the regular-season finale at Chapel Ridge, and again next year when sign-up begins in December. Bruce 336-495-6556 behgolf@aol.com T Legacy Golf Club - Hole #18 The 2013 Senior Amateur Tour National Championship dates have been announced. The 36 hole tournament will be played from Nov 12-13, 2013 in Pinehurst, NC. All Senior Attendees Must Register Online at the Senior Golf Tour Web Site |

THE SENIOR AMATEUR GOLF TOUR CHAPEL RIDGE TOP FIVE SCORES BY FLIGHT |
KNIGHTDALE'S MOSHER GOES LOW FOR 1ST SENIOR TOUR WIN Pittsboro, NC October 24, 2013 Harry Mosher of Knightdale had never tasted victory on the Senior Amateur Golf Tour. All that changed today in the Tour Regular Season Finale at Chapel Ridge Golf Club. Mosher fashioned a 75, one of only 2 B Flight players to break 80 in the 23 man field. He cruised to a 4-shot win over Pinehurst's John Henely. It was Mosher's low round of the season. "It's always good when a regular Tour member gets his first win", said Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck. It's especially nice when it's with his best score of the year". Arch Reed of Pinehurst, who won a number of events earlier this season, got back on track with a 2 under par effort to grab the top spot in the Championship Flight. Jamestown's Rob Andrews fired his best score of the season to secure the runner-up spot with a 72. "When Arch is on his game he can definitely go low", quipped Hallenbeck. A Three-Man playoff was necessary to determine a C Flight winner as Raleigh's Jim Tesch, Pttsboro's Dwight Davis and Dennis Bryant of Sophia all turned in scores of 84. Bryant went out on the first hole of sudden death to take third place. Tesch then turned in two pars to secure the win over Davis. Once again, the C Flight was the biggest of the entire field with 35 members shooting for the win. While not as close as the C Flight competition, the A Flight was still pretty tight as Burlington's Randy Coppedge edged Pittsboro's Mark McKenna by a single stroke - 75 to 76. It should be noted that both the Championship and A Flights played from tees 300 yards farther back than the B and C Flights. Next up for the Senior Tour is the National Championship Tournament in Pinehurst on November 12 & 13. That event will bring the top players to North Carolina from the 13 Tours located along the East coast. It is estimated that approximately 300 players will compete in those Tour Finals. ============================================================== Where Will You Be in the 2013 Season Ending Point Standings Race? There are only two ways to get to the year ending National Tournament - win one of the four majors or be one of the Top 10 point earners in your flight. As you plot your tour schedule, be cognizant of the fact, only the top 10 are guaranteed access. Usually, most flight races are tight and depends on how well you play and of course how many tour dates you participate in during 2013. Do you know how many tournaments you will need to play and what place you will need to finish in each tournament to ensure you have your automatic invitation? =============================================================== Rules Review It has been suggested that there should be a series of Rules scenarios for you to solve. So begins a series of problems titled What's the Score? Doc Miller has graciously agreed to allow me to share these with you that he has been sending since July 2009. I will include one each week. You should try to determine the answer based upon your knowledge of the Rules when ever possible and then use your Rule book to confirm. There will be no trick questions or hidden information.
If you do not have a Rules of Golf book handy, go to: usga.org/Rule-Books and-Decisions =============================================================== |
Questions from week #223 Sometimes, when a ball is initially dropped under a Rule, if the ball rolls forward, i.e., closer to the hole than the point where it first struck a part of the course, the player is required to re-drop. At other times, provided the ball did not roll more than two club-lengths, the ball is played from where it comes to rest. Knowing for which situation a re-drop is required and when it is not allowed will save you from being penalized. Review Rule 20-3c then decide the following: A. You are dropping a ball under R28, option b for a ball you’ve declared unplayable. When you drop the ball it rolls forward, closer to the hole, about one club-length, but not closer than the original spot of the ball. Should you re-drop? B. On a par four, you have hit your second stroke from the fairway out of bounds. You drop a ball on the spot of your previous stroke and it rolls forward about six inches. Should you play the ball as it lies or re-drop? C. You are using the DZ for a ball you hit into a water hazard. When you drop your ball it rolls forward, out of the DZ. Even if the ball has not rolled more than two club-lengths, are you supposed to re-drop? D. You are dropping a ball after taking relief from a cart path. When dropped, your ball rolls forward about two feet and comes to rest closer to the hole than the tee you have placed in the ground that represents your nearest point of relief, but not closer to the hole than the original spot of the ball on the path. Do you play the ball as it lies or re-drop?
Answers: A. No need to re-drop. Since you are dropping along the extension of the imaginary line, anchored on the hole, going through the position of the ball as it lay unplayable, there is no specific spot you need to reference. You are simply required to drop somewhere on that imaginary line. After the ball first strikes a part of the course, it can roll in any direction, up to two club-lengths. It must not roll closer to the hole than the original spot of the ball. (R28b, R20-2b and R20-2c(vii)(a). B. Re-drop. The ball rolled closer to the hole than its original position. (R27-1a, R20-2b, R20-2c(vii)(a). C. No re-drop needed. DZs are somewhat of a special case. The statement in the parenthesis at the end of R20-2c directs the reader to the Appendix. There you find some interesting statements. If you encounter DZs occasionally, I advise you to look up the Rule in Appendix I, Part B, Specimen Local Rule 8. Particularly, read items a-g under the note. D. Re-drop. Once you take relief under a Rule that requires you to determine the nearest point of relief (R24-2, Immovable Obstruction; R25-1, Abnormal Ground Condition; or, R25-3, Wrong Putting Green; and some Local Rules) that NPoR now becomes the reference point for when to re-drop if the ball rolls towards the hole. The spot of your NPoR replaces the original spot of the ball for reference to the specific reason for a re-drop under R20-2c(viii)(b). In stroke play, if you either re-drop when not supposed to or fail to drop when required, if left uncorrected, the player incurs a 2-stroke penalty. In match play, the player would lose the hole. =============================================================== TTour Weather Guidelines Primarily, we adhere to the same guidelines that the PGA Tour uses: If Primarily, the course is open, we're going to play. The only exception to this is that I'll never put any of you in harm's way during an event because of dangerous weather. (i.e. - lightening or severe cold and wetness). In other words, I won't let the course "bully" us into playing where an unsafe condition might exist. Because I arrive at every event at least two hours prior to the start time and I generally have to leave my house at least an hour before that to get to the course, there is no sense calling me just before the event, because I won't be at the office. The best avenue to take is to call the course if the weather seems threatening. If you are on the roster for the event, and you do not get a cancellation notice from the course after calling them, you are expected to show up in time for the scheduled shotgun start.
