=============================================================== Bryan Park (Champions Course) 1st Major of the Season As Tour veterans know, Major Tournaments award double points to all players and offer an opportunity to those that wish to get to the National Tournament to move up in the all important year long point standings. This is the first of four Majors scheduled and they usually sell-out and sell-out early. There’s not much to say about the venue this week – it is a great course to play. The Champions Course opened in 1990 by the legendary Rees Jones. Therefore be warned, it can become a real skill challenge! It is a big time course that is always looked at and most times selected for competitive rounds to separate the real golfer from the pretenders. Play this course and you will be able to match your card against many of the collegiate and future PGA stars as well as The US Amateurs. This is an 18 hole championship layout featuring 97 sand traps, numerous grass bunkers, hollows and seven holes bordering Lake Townsend. Good luck this week! SENIOR TOUR PROMOTION FOR RALEIGH'S LAFATA Sanford, NC March 18, 2015 Raleigh's Rick LaFata made his last event as a Senior Amateur Golf Tour A Flight participant a memorable one. By hitting every fairway and 15 greens while posting 3 birdies, LaFata was able to cruise to a 4 stroke win in the A Flight over last week's flight winner - McLeansville's Ron Brady. In his most consistent Tour round to date, LaFata's 1-under par 70 moved his Tour handicap into Championship Flight range in which he'll compete starting with his next event. "I'm ready" stated LaFata in reference to the move up. "Rick's a great guy and should be very competitive moving up with the 'big boys' ". said Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck. Another Raleigh member, Scott Fink, playing in only his second Tour event also enjoyed a comfortable margin of victory in the B Flight competition, posting a 78. He was 5 shots clear of Pinehurst's Tom Kubla. Fink's 37 on the front side propelled him to the win. Ted Harris of Fayetteville was also able to notch his first career Tour victory with an 84 that was the class of the C Flight. Harris was 2 shots clear of two golfers - Winston-Salem's Steve Shows and High Point's Richard Hartley. In the Championship Flight competition High Point's Joey Moffitt and Sanford's Craig Sturdivant finished tied with 76s after 18 holes. Normally a sudden-death playoff would then determine the winner of the flight, but Sturdivant graciously elected not to go back out and let Moffitt claim the win. "There was a steady rain which fell all day", said Tour Director Hallenbeck. "It never fell hard, but it became quite annoying after 18 holes. I can't say I would've wanted to go out into it either. As a matter of fact, considering the conditions, every flight winner or runner-up did a remarkable job today". Next up for the Senior Amateur Golf Tour is the season's first "Major" at Bryan Park's Championship Course. There are some spots left for that event and any amateur golfer over 50 can contact Hallenbeck at 336-495-6556 or by email at behgolf@aol.com for information on how to compete "on-Tour". =============================================================== Rules Review It has been suggested that there should be a series of Rules scenarios for you to solve. So begins a series of problems titled What's the Score? Doc Miller has graciously agreed to allow me to share these with you that he has been sending since July 2009. I will include one each week. You should try to determine the answer based upon your knowledge of the Rules when ever possible and then use your Rule book to confirm. There will be no trick questions or hidden information.

Question from week #296 Slick’s drive hit a tree about 180 yards up the right side of the tree line and with a loud whack, disappeared from everyone’s view. After the other players hit, Slick declared and hit a provisional ball somewhat along the same line. Arriving at the approximate location the players fanned out in the four directions of the compass. Early into the search, Slick’s provisional ball was found snuggled up against a couple medium size trees. After a few minutes, Slick called off the search and declared he would play his provisional ball. He decided he would need to declare this ball unplayable, so proceeded correctly when he lifted and dropped it within the required two club-lengths. Before playing this ball, and still within the required five minute search period a fellow competitor discovered Slick’s original ball partially hidden under a leaf. What do you think he should do? A. Slick must play his original ball and his next stroke will be his second. B. Slick must play his provisional ball and his next stroke will be his fourth. C. If Slick plays his provisional ball, his next stroke will be his seventh. D. Slick may play his original ball, but now lies two, so his next stroke will be his third. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Answer A is the correct choice. Slick’s original ball was still in play (see Definition: Lost Ball). Declaring his provisional ball unplayable does not change the status of that ball, nor the relationship it has to his original (See R27-2). Within the allotted five minute time period, provided he does not make a stroke at his provisional ball from a place nearer the hole than where his original is likely to be, then his original ball remains as his ball in play despite the provisional being lifted and dropped. His next stroke will be his second as penalties incurred solely by playing the provisional ball are to be disregarded. |

=============================================================== TTour Weather Guidelines Primarily, we adhere to the same guidelines that the PGA Tour uses: If Primarily, the course is open, we're going to play. The only exception to this is that I'll never put any of you in harm's way during an event because of dangerous weather. (i.e. - lightening or severe cold and wetness). In other words, I won't let the course "bully" us into playing where an unsafe condition might exist. Because I arrive at every event at least two hours prior to the start time and I generally have to leave my house at least an hour before that to get to the course, there is no sense calling me just before the event, because I won't be at the office. The best avenue to take is to call the course if the weather seems threatening. If you are on the roster for the event, and you do not get a cancellation notice from the course after calling them, you are expected to show up in time for the scheduled shotgun start.
