Bermuda Run
The weather was picture perfect at Bermuda Run Thursday.
Three championship flight players enjoyed it so much they went back out on the
course for a playoff for first place. After all three shot 78 in regulation
play, Tom Fagerli of Yadkinville took care of business with back to back pars
and prevailed over Greg Mabe of High Point and Dan Anthony of Thomasville for
the first place finish.
No playoff was necessary in the A flight, but there was
still a battle to determine a winner. Chuck Taubersmith of Pinehurst shot 73
and barely nipped Ron Tapscott of Walkertown by a single stroke. David Frye of
Winston-Salem shot 76 to finish 3 back of Taubersmith, while John East and Frank
Bunn both shot 77.
Allen Kayler of Winston-Salem took advantage of good playing
conditions and shot a fine score of 75 for a 2 stroke victory over Ron Gburek
of Lewisville. Terry Scarlette of High point and Dexter Barbee of Burlington
also managed to break 80 with identical 79's.
Twenty eight players crowded the C flight with Jim Prouty of
Pittsboro coming out on top with an excellent score of 81. Dan Whalen of
Greensboro gave Prouty a scare coming up a single stroke back at 82. Four more
players were only 2 shots back. Don Brown, Jerry Snead, Lewis Burgman, and Bill
Holland.
