DENTON'S HEASLEY BREAKS 2- YEAR SR. TOUR WINLESS DROUGHT
Fuquay- Varina, NC - (October 27, 2011) - W.E. (Bill) Heasley of Denton thought he might have a chance to be competitive today in the Senior Amateur Golf Tour event held at Crooked Creek Golf Club. He felt confident after finishing "in-the-money" at the last Senior Tour event held at Colonial Country Club in Thomasville 2 weeks ago.
Not only was Heasley competitive, he excelled, shooting his way to a relatively comfortable win in the C Flight for his first Tour win in the last 2 years. Heasley's 86 was 3 shots clear of runner-up John Hall of Raleigh. They were the only 2 "C-Flighters" to break 90.
The lowest round of the day was turned in by Randy Bunn of Zebulon who's 73 also beat the 2nd place finisher - John East of Rockingham - by 3 strokes. The A Flight belonged to Zebulon members, as East was the only one of the top 4 not from the small Raleigh bedroom community.
Tom Handy, a Fuquay-Varina resident and frequent Crooked Creek customer. used his local knowledge well to secure 1st place in the B Flight with an even 80. Three strokes again remained the magic number, as that was Hardy's margin of victory over a trio of golfers - Lee Booker, also from Fuquay-Varina, Durham's Twig Avent, and Perry Laymon out of Wilmington.
The closest competition for 1st place occurred in the Championship Flight where Cary residents Steve Linton and Johnny Adams were separated by a single stroke. Linton took the title on the strength of a 79.
