Hyland Golf Tournament
June 9, 2022
Hyland
Golf Club in Southern Pines was the site for this week’s Central Carolina
Senior Amateur Golf Tour event. The weather was warm and the competition was
fierce.
In
the Champ flight, the birdies were ‘flying’! Dean Parziale carded six birdies
enroute to a two under par 70 on the way to victory. Runner up Craig Sturdivant
had five birdies himself while posting a one under par 71. Bryan Benton from
the Jacksonville, FL Tour and Steve Lassiter finished T3 as both shot even par
72. Mike Gentry from the Charlotte Tour rounded out the top five with a score
of 74.
Eighteen
holes of golf was insufficient to produce a winner in the A flight. Keith
Thomas and David Beaver ended regulation play tied at one under par 71 so they
returned to the course for a sudden victory playoff. Both players made par on
the first hole, but Keith also made par on the second playoff hole that David
was unable to match giving Keith the win. Ron Brady put five birdies and an
eagle on his scorecard to finish third at even par. Chris Howington shot 75 in
fourth place, while Chris Ramos rounded out the top five posting 77.
In
the B flight, Steve Denton fired a one over par score of 73 to win by 4 strokes.
Dan Johnson was runner up as he posted 77, while Dick Kuehl placed third with a
score of 78. David Teague, Scott Hammond from the Eastern NC Tour, and Gene
Jones finished the day T4 as all three players shot 80.
The
C flight required extra holes of golf to determine who would win today as no
less than three players returned matching scores of 82. Rich Henn from the
Eastern NC Tour, Tim Willoughby, and Steven Wrenn made their way to the first
tee after a brief rain shower to duke it out and decide who would take first
place honors. Rich and Steven tied the first playoff hole and moved on. Rich
made bogie on hole two, but Steven found trouble and could not match it as Rich
got the win. Glenn Lewis posted 84 to finish in third place. Ed McNally, Patrick
Warren, Wayne Ricks, and Daniel Keddie from the Charlotte Tour ended the day T5
as all posted 85’s.
In
the D flight, Joe Rodriguez shot 86 enroute to his first win on tour in his
first season. Congrats Joe! Sola Edwards was runner up carding three birdies to
help her post a score of 87. Cal Rogers shot 89 on the way to a third place
finish, while Joan Wicker posted 90 to take fourth. Neil Bleau rounded out the
top five with his score of 93.
Next
stop for the Central Carolina Tour will be Forest Oaks CC, the former home
of the PGA Greensboro Open on Thursday, June 23rd. Sign up soon, you do
not want to miss this event.
