=============================================================== Colonial Country Club 10:00 AM Shotgun A Traditional Gene Hamm Design Golf course architect Gene Hamm left his mark throughout this great state, but perhaps none more memorable than the design at Colonial Country Club. Hamm has built courses in some of the finest areas in North Carolina, including the historic Pinehurst area. Hamm’s work at Colonial proved to be one of his finest. Never one to disturb nature, Hamm carved the layout through hardwood forests leaving the natural contours of the land to provide the character of the course. The result was a wonderful test of golf that thrills golfers to this day. - Challenging par 71 course (USGA rating 71.5/slope 118)
- 6,600 yards of rolling Bermuda fairways with 75 maintained bunkers
- Large well manicured bent grass greens
- Played host to Carolina Sr. 4-ball, NC Women’s Amateur championship, and U.S. Open qualifying

"Can't Complete the Low Round? "Improve Your Golf Mental Toughness" "Available Immediately On-Line"
Every golfer has heard the saying "It's all in your head" or "Golf is 90% mental" or "Golf is the most mentally demanding sport in the world." Yet what do golfers do about it? Well, most often absolutley nothing! Not necessarily because they don't want to, but sometimes golfers actually think the mental game doesn't matter to them! Click Here to Unlock Your Mind and Shoot Better Golf EVERY golfer can benefit from increasing their mental toughness and harnessing the full power of thier mind! Many golfers naively get stuck into thinking that the mental game only matters for elite players or pros who make a living golfing. Nonsense! EVERY golfer needs to use their mind properly. It is your mind that determines how well you learn when taking lessons. (and this training course is packed with accelerated learning techniques that will have you absorbing more from lessons) It is your mind that will allow you to set up to the ball correctly and commit to your swing (or not!). It is your mind that will either stay focused under pressure and get you to make a smooth, fluid stroke when you need to drain an 8 footer for the win, or have you choking like a dog and collapsing like a house of cards when the heat is on!

=============================================================== THE SENIOR AMATEUR GOLF TOUR CAROLINA TRACE (CREEK) TOURNAMENT REVIEW TOP FIVE SCORES BY FLIGHT =============================================================== |
MOFFITT ADDS TO SENIOR TOUR POINTS LEAD Sanford, NC July 23, 2105 High Point's Joey Moffitt went into today's Senior Amateur Golf Tour event with a 476 point lead over Winston-Salem's Howard Nemenz for the top spot in the season-long Points Standings race. While Nemenz didn't play in this event, Moffitt took advantage by taking 1st place honors by 2 strokes over Whispering Pines' Ron Hockensmith and Thomasville's Dan Anthony. His win added an additional 450 points to his total of 4118 points going into the event. Moffitt got off to a fast start, with birdies on 3 of his first 5 holes. He never looked back finishing with a 76 for the win. While he played from over 400 yards closer than Moffitt, the A Flight's Ron Brady turned in the low score of the event with a 74. No stranger to the winner's circle this year, Brady also added to his Flight-leading points total. Laurinburg's Robin Neverve was 2 back with a 76. In B Flight action, Greensboro's Tim Ward took the top spot with a 79. Ward was runner-up last week at Chapel Ridge GC and carried that good play through today for the win. Ed Waller, playing in his first B Flight event after being promoted from the C Flight, made his B Flight debut a successful one with an 80 and a stand-alone 2nd place finish. Top honors in the C Flight belonged to Mebane's Lee Smith who narrowly edged Charlotte's Wayne Creese by a single shot - 80 to 81. The Seniors Resume play next Thursday, July 30, at Colonial Country Club in Thomasville. There are open spots in that event for an amateur golfer over 50. =============================================================== Rules Review It has been suggested that there should be a series of Rules scenarios for you to solve. So begins a series of problems titled What's the Score? Doc Miller has graciously agreed to allow me to share these with you that he has been sending since July 2009. I will include one each week. You should try to determine the answer based upon your knowledge of the Rules when ever possible and then use your Rule book to confirm. There will be no trick questions or hidden information.

Question from week #312
In a stroke play event, on the par three 17th hole, Bruce push/fades his tee ball into the lateral water hazard where it is lost in deep water. Using the drop zone, he drops a substitute ball in the forward most area of the DZ.
The dropped ball hits the ground and then goes forward about a foot outside the DZ. Because his ball is deemed in a closely mown area and because the Local Rule for preferred lies is in effect, he marks, lifts and cleans the ball, replacing it on its original spot before playing to the green. He takes two putts to complete the hole.
What is Bruce's score for the 17th hole?
A. 5
B. 6
C. 7
D. 8
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Answer
A. 5.
Bruce did everything correctly. When he dropped in the DZ his ball must first strike the course on or inside the DZ line. When dropped, the ball may roll up to two club-lengths in any direction without needing to be re-dropped. This includes rolling forward and out of the DZ. He then correctly marked, lifted and cleaned his ball before replacing it as was permitted by the Local Rule in effect.
One procedural note. Many players are wrongly under the impression when dropping a ball under conditions that include “preferred lies”, the player may save steps and just simply place the ball. Not so. You must first put a ball in play, then if the spot of the ball permits marking and lifting under the L/R, you may then proceed with that procedure. |

=============================================================== TTour Weather Guidelines Primarily, we adhere to the same guidelines that the PGA Tour uses: If Primarily, the course is open, we're going to play. The only exception to this is that I'll never put any of you in harm's way during an event because of dangerous weather. (i.e. - lightening or severe cold and wetness). In other words, I won't let the course "bully" us into playing where an unsafe condition might exist. Because I arrive at every event at least two hours prior to the start time and I generally have to leave my house at least an hour before that to get to the course, there is no sense calling me just before the event, because I won't be at the office. The best avenue to take is to call the course if the weather seems threatening. If you are on the roster for the event, and you do not get a cancellation notice from the course after calling them, you are expected to show up in time for the scheduled shotgun start.
