Champ Flight Tight in Senior Tour Legacy Event!
Aberdeen, NC (May
7, 2015) - Pinehurst's Steve Lassiter took the top spot in the
Championship Flight in today's Senior Amateur Golf Tour event held at The
Legacy Golf Links. The competition was fierce however as the top five
finishers all were within 2 strokes of Lassiter's winning score of
75. Sanford's Craig Sturdivant was runner-up with a 76, while a trio of
Tour members - High Point's Joey Moffitt, Randy Fuquay of Fuquay-Varina and
Thomasville's Dan Anthony all were 1 shot behind Sturdivant.
Four birdies helped
Lassiter pull off the victory in his second start of the 2015 season.
McLeansville's Ron
Brady, a multiple winner "on-Tour" was handed the A Flight crown as
Creedmoor's Cecil Lockley left prior to realizing that his 78 would hold up to
tie Brady for the top spot. Under normal conditions the two would then go
out for a sudden-death playoff to determine the winner, but due to Lockley's
absence Brady was declared the winner. Once again the competition was
tight as 6 players finished within a single stroke of the lead.
Ron Caulder of North
Myrtle Beach didn't have that kind of competition "breathing down his
neck" as his career best round of 75 for the 10 year plus veteran was 3
shots clear of Pinehurst's Larry Ringen in B Flight action. Only 3
golfers in a field of 40 were able to break 80 in the flight.
Dwight Davis of
Pittsboro also enjoyed a 3 shot cushion in the C Flight with an 80 - the lowest
score registered in the flight this year. Ed Waller of Raleigh was second
with an 83.
The Seniors next tee it
up at Forest Oaks Country Club in Greensboro. There are a limited number
of spots available for that event on May 14.
