====================================== THE SENIOR AMATEUR GOLF TOUR COLONIAL COUNTRY CLUB TOP FIVE SCORES BY FLIGHT ============================== COLONIAL CC HOSTS SENIOR AMATEUR TOUR 2014 FINALE Thomasville, NC October 9, 2014 A beautiful day on a great golf course was the perfect way to finish out the 2014 season on the Senior Amateur Golf Tour. A strong field showed up for the final regular season event at Colonial Country Club, capping off a year that saw record attendance figures for the Tour. Next up for those Tour members who qualified will be the National Tour Finals in Pinehurst in November. A field of 250 is expected for that event. In the Championship Flight, a player who is no stranger to the winner's circle, Winston-Salem's Howard Nemenz, shot 75 to squeeze out a 1 shot victory over last year's champ at this venue, Hugh Beckwith from West End and Whispering Pines' Ron Hockensmith. A pair of Charlotte area golfers, Jeff Hughes and Billy Poteat topped the A Flight standings with a 73 and 74 respectively. In the B Flight, Greensboro's Tim Ward cashed his first winner's share of the season with a 78, 1 stroke clear of fellow Greensboro resident Vic Robertson and Advance's Dawson Strider. Winston-Salem's Steve Shows showed no mercy in the C flight with a torrid 81 that was 3 shots clear of a trio of players: High Point's Richard Hartley, Mocksville's Mark Denton, and Charles Gunn of Greensboro. "It's been a great year for the Tour", said Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck. "We expect 2015 to be even better with all the enquiries we've received from potential new members at the end of this season. Next year's schedule will be out by mid-December and we'll be accepting 2015 memberships at that point". "Improve your golf mental toughness 10-fold during the winter"
Every golfer has heard the saying "It's all in your head" or "Golf is 90% mental" or "Golf is the most mentally demanding sport in the world." Yet what do golfers do about it? Well, most often absolutley nothing! Not necessarily because they don't want to, but sometimes golfers actually think the mental game doesn't matter to them! Click Here to Unlock Your Mind and Shoot Better Golf EVERY golfer can benefit from increasing their mental toughness and harnessing the full power of thier mind! Many golfers naively get stuck into thinking that the mental game only matters for elite players or pros who make a living golfing. Nonsense! EVERY golfer needs to use their mind properly. It is your mind that determines how well you learn when taking lessons. (and this training course is packed with accelerated learning techniques that will have you absorbing more from lessons) It is your mind that will allow you to set up to the ball correctly and commit to your swing (or not!). It is your mind that will either stay focused under pressure and get you to make a smooth, fluid stroke when you need to drain an 8 footer for the win, or have you choking like a dog and collapsing like a house of cards when the heat is on!
Click Here to Unlock Your Mind and Shoot Better Golf "When you have a chance to shoot the lowest score of your life, you won't choke - You Will Go Low!"

=============================================================== Rules Review It has been suggested that there should be a series of Rules scenarios for you to solve. So begins a series of problems titled What's the Score? Doc Miller has graciously agreed to allow me to share these with you that he has been sending since July 2009. I will include one each week. You should try to determine the answer based upon your knowledge of the Rules when ever possible and then use your Rule book to confirm. There will be no trick questions or hidden information.
If you do not have a Rules of Golf book handy, go to: usga.org/Rule-Books and-Decisions =============================================================== |
Question from week #273 Terry is playing in a stroke play event and has hit his second shot into a green-side lateral water hazard. When he approaches the ball he finds it marginally playable. In taking his stance, he uses his club to flick a dead branch out of the way of his back swing. Before he attempts his stroke a fellow competitor tells him he thinks Terry just breached a Rule of Golf when he moved the branch. Thinking he may be right, Terry changes his mind and says “OK, instead I’ll take relief from the hazard.” Terry lifts his ball and exits the hazard. He elects to use the Drop Zone even though the DZ is closer to the hole than the point where Terry’s ball last crossed the margin of the hazard. Terry drops his ball in the DZ, then plays this ball onto the green and take three putts to complete play of the hole. What is Terry’s score for the hole? A. 7 B. 8 C. 9 D. 11 and might be subject to a DQ.
Answer C. 9. When you don’t know the Rules, the strokes can add up quickly. When a player’s ball is in a hazard, he is prohibited from moving any loose impediments which are in or touching the same hazard—R13-4c. When Terry flicked that dead branch out of the way, he breached that Rule. Had Terry first indicated his intention to proceed with relief under Rule 26-1, then he could do what ever was necessary to retrieve his ball including moving loose impediments. Not until after he breached R13-4, did he change his mind and take the 1-stroke penalty relief under R26-1. He may have thought by doing so, he could avoid the associated penalty. That is simply not the case. . |

=============================================================== TTour Weather Guidelines Primarily, we adhere to the same guidelines that the PGA Tour uses: If Primarily, the course is open, we're going to play. The only exception to this is that I'll never put any of you in harm's way during an event because of dangerous weather. (i.e. - lightening or severe cold and wetness). In other words, I won't let the course "bully" us into playing where an unsafe condition might exist. Because I arrive at every event at least two hours prior to the start time and I generally have to leave my house at least an hour before that to get to the course, there is no sense calling me just before the event, because I won't be at the office. The best avenue to take is to call the course if the weather seems threatening. If you are on the roster for the event, and you do not get a cancellation notice from the course after calling them, you are expected to show up in time for the scheduled shotgun start.
