2016 Season Opener
Slick greens and cool conditions
kept scoring from midseason quality today as the Senior Amateur Golf Tour got
the 2016 season underway. "Those greens must have been running 11.5",
said tour veteran James Dockery." I watched a guy hit a putt which I
didn't think would get halfway to the hole, and the ball wound up rolling off
the green".
Only one Championship Flight player was able to break 80. Sanford's Greg
Sturtevant at a comfortable six stroke margin of victory over Thomasville's Dan
Anthony with a 76.
The A flight, which played from shorter tees had
three players break the 80 barrier led by McLeansville's Ron Brady with a
78. Burlington's Myron Privette and Cecil Lockley of Creedmoor finished one
stroke behind Brady.
In B flight action Linwood's Rob Geilhausen emerged victorious with an 82,
one stroke better than Winston-Salem's Houston Shaw and Steve Denton from
Wendall.
The C flight ground belonged to Chapel Hill's Patrick Warren with the
93. He won a coin flip playoff with Wake Forest's Dan harness and Ed
Waller from Raleigh for the title.
Next up for the seniors is Tobacco Road in Sanford.
