"Improve your golf mental toughness 10-fold" Every golfer has heard the saying "It's all in your head" or "Golf is 90% mental" or "Golf is the most mentally demanding sport in the world." Yet what do golfers do about it? Well, most often absolutley nothing! Not necessarily because they don't want to, but sometimes golfers actually think the mental game doesn't matter to them! Click Here to Unlock Your Mind and Shoot Better Golf EVERY golfer can benefit from increasing their mental toughness and harnessing the full power of thier mind! Many golfers naively get stuck into thinking that the mental game only matters for elite players or pros who make a living golfing. Nonsense! EVERY golfer needs to use their mind properly. It is your mind that determines how well you learn when taking lessons. (and this training course is packed with accelerated learning techniques that will have you absorbing more from lessons) It is your mind that will allow you to set up to the ball correctly and commit to your swing (or not!). It is your mind that will either stay focused under pressure and get you to make a smooth, fluid stroke when you need to drain an 8 footer for the win, or have you choking like a dog and collapsing like a house of cards when the heat is on!

=============================================================== BRYAN PARK HOSTS SENIOR AM TOUR 2-DAY EVENT Browns Summit, NC June 13, 2013 Having hosted the 2010 USGA Publinks Championship, Bryan Park Golf Club was no stranger to putting on a Major golf event. They once again did a fine job this week hosting the first 2-day event in the 14 year history of the Triad and Raleigh Divisions of the Senior Amateur Golf Tour. Just under 100 Tour members "teed it up" Wednesday on the Players Course and Thursday on the Champions Course under sunny skies. You would think that 36 holes would be enough to determine a winner, but that was not the case in the Championship Flight. Durham's Eric Ardery and Ron Hockensmith of Whispering Pines needed an extra hole as both finished with 2-day totals of 147 strokes. Ardery made short work of Hockensmith in the playoff, beating him with a par on the first extra hole. Both players had to come from behind to get into the playoff after Kim Mansfield of High Point registered a 2- under 70 on day 1. Only one other flight had a "come-from-behind" winner as Tour rookie Steve Manley of Reidsville was the only B Flight member to break 80 on both days with a 77, 78 - 155 total. He was 1 behind first day leader Tom Kubla from Pinehurst going into Thursday, but Kubla finished in 2nd place after posting an 84. Both Doug Masters of Clemmons and North Myrtle Beach's Mike Hinson were able to hold onto sizable first day leads in the A and C Flights respectively, even though neither had the best 2nd day score in their group. Masters backed up his opening day 71 with a 78 for a total of 149 in the A Flight. Wendell's Bob Dail stood alone in 2nd, 5 strokes back. Dail's 74 on day 1 was his best Tour score ever. In the C Flight Hinson had a 5 shot advantage going into day 2 over 1st year Tour member Mike Wallace of Fayetteville. Hinson's 81 - 87, 168 still managed to take top flight honors from Wallace by 3 strokes. Next stop for the Senior Amateur Tour is Hyland Resort near Pinehurst on Thursday, June 20. Any amateur golfer over 50 is welcome to compete in that event. For information check the website at senioramateurgolftour.net. =============================================================== Rules Review It has been suggested that there should be a series of Rules scenarios for you to solve. So begins a series of problems titled What's the Score? Doc Miller has graciously agreed to allow me to share these with you that he has been sending since July 2009.I will include one each week. You should try to determine the answer based upon your knowledge of the Rules when ever possible and then use your Rule book to confirm. There will be no trick questions or hidden information. If you do not have a Rules of Golf book handy, go to: usga.org/Rule-Books and-Decisions |

Question from week #199 Rule 5-3 covers a ball deemed unfit for play. Consider the following: 1. Your tee ball has hit an asphalt cart path on the fly and is visibly scraped and tar-colored. 2. Your brand new ball has hit the trunk of an oak tree after a full swing and the surface is clearly scuffed and the finish is marred. 3. Your ball, after a stroke from the fairway, strikes the 150 marker full on. Your ball now has a dime-sized blue paint transfer mark upon it. 4. Your ball at rest on the fairway was picked up by a dog, who had fun playing solo catch with it before releasing the ball. After retrieving the ball you see puncture marks from the dog’s teeth that have penetrated the cover and left raised barbs. Decide for each of the above listed situations whether you would likely be permitted to deem that ball unfit for play during the play of a hole.
Answers: It is a common misconception that if a ball hits a cart path, tree, rock or other hard substance, the impact damage renders it unfit for play. This is simply not true for the modern golf ball. The origins of this Rule go back to the times of the gutta-purcha ball, circa 1850. The guttie could be mass produced, but had a tendency to break apart. So the R & A introduced the Rule, which was revised over several decades. The modern Rule has a fairly detailed description of what does or does not constitute unfit damage. Please take the time to read the first paragraph in R5-3 for this description. 1. The ball would not be deemed unfit for play. Contact with a cart path might scuff up the ball’s surface, but the modern ball is too tough to damage to the point where it would be unfit for play. Most people I know continue to use the ball in that condition. 2. Not unfit for play. Again, same reasoning as above. 3. Not unfit. 4. Now we have a damaged cover. Both the barbs left from the dog’s teeth and the holes made by his bite have probably altered the cover enough that it would effect both the flight of the ball and effect contact with, say, a putter face. I honestly cannot recall the last time I was aware of anybody on any tour successfully taking a ball out of play for being unfit during the play of a hole. Every once in a while someone will hit a rock or something like a grandstand and it might cut the ball enough to render it unfit, but it really takes something like a mower running over the modern ball to damage the cover. =============================================================== |

=============================================================== TTour Weather Guidelines Primarily, we adhere to the same guidelines that the PGA Tour uses: If Primarily, the course is open, we're going to play. The only exception to this is that I'll never put any of you in harm's way during an event because of dangerous weather. (i.e. - lightening or severe cold and wetness). In other words, I won't let the course "bully" us into playing where an unsafe condition might exist. Because I arrive at every event at least two hours prior to the start time and I generally have to leave my house at least an hour before that to get to the course, there is no sense calling me just before the event, because I won't be at the office. The best avenue to take is to call the course if the weather seems threatening. If you are on the roster for the event, and you do not get a cancellation notice from the course after calling them, you are expected to show up in time for the scheduled shotgun start. Bruce |
