2022 Tournament Results

The Central Carolina Amateur Golf Tour had a two day major tournament on April 23rd and 24th at the Keith Hills CC at Campbell University in Buies Creek. The weather could not have been more perfect with temps in the mid 80’s and just a light breeze. Perfect golf weather.

For the Champ flight participants thirty six holes of golf could not produce a winner on Sunday afternoon. Cole Howard and Steven Hamby, who birdied his last three holes of round two to tie Cole at one under par 143 for the two rounds, went back to the first tee for a playoff. After matching scores of par, birdie, and bogie on their first three holes, Cole rolled in a second birdie that Steve was unable to match to collect his first win of the season. Round one leader Connor Brown finished third at two over par 146. Brad Wicker placed fourth shooting 157, while Eric Parziale rounds out the top five carding 158.

In the A flight, Keegan Branham shot a two day total of 154 with scores of 76-78 to collect the win. Brad McDougald was runner up with a total score of 157 in his first event of 2022. Hank Frankenberg took third place honors posting a two day score of 160. Jay Yergeau and John Crooks matched two day totals of 162 to finish T4 for the tourney.

Blake Gravitt from the Eastern NC Tour made his trip to Buies Creek worthwhile as he posted a two day total of 166 to collect the first place honors. Alec Cates was second place with his total score of 169. Shawn Cacioppo placed third carding 176. Placing fourth was Henry Lech by posting 181.

In the C flight, Doug Harvey had a couple of good days as he posted 167 to win the flight by 6 shots. Giavanna Jackson and Kevin Perrault ended the two days tied for second place with matching scores of 173. Johnny Sears was the fourth place finisher by shooting 175. Andy Parker rounded out the top five with his two day total score of 178.

Vince Thompson won for the second time of the 2022 season in the C flight by posting a two day total of 184. Marb Myers was runner for the two days by posting 187. Greg Dotson and Sola Edwards placed third and fourth respectively scoring 188 and 189. David Rosier rounds out the top five finishing scores by posting 192.

After a short break from competition, the Central Carolina Tour moves to Carolina Trace CC in Sanford for a two day event on May 14th and 15th. Two more great courses that you do not want to miss. Sign up now.

The Golf Club at Quail Ridge in Sanford was the site of the Central Carolina Senior Amateur Golf Tour event on Thursday April 7th. A very brief shower rolled through prior to tee time and rain arrived after everyone had finished their round. Between the raindrops the weather was sunny and warm and the course conditions were perfect.

In the Champ flight, Eli Villanueva fired a one over par 73 to win for the second time this season. Joey Moffitt claimed the runner up spot with a score of 76. Craig Sturdivant and Bob Wilson ended the day T3 by posting a pair of 78’s, while Steve Lassiter rounded out the top five carding an 82.

Randy Bunn staked claim to his first win of 2022 in the A flight with a two under par front nine 34 and total score of even par 72. John East posted four birdies and an eagle while carding a one over par 73 to take second place. David Baker placed third with a score of 78. Fourth place was a four way tie as Keith Thomas, Chuck Smith, Bill Berry, and Jamie Branham all shot 79.

In the B flight Eddie Jaggers won by three strokes shooting 80 and moved into the lead in the 2022 B flight points race. Runner up Dan Johnson shot 82, while Michael Broadway finished in third place one stroke back at 83. Rounding out the top five it was Willie Boyd and Adam Hoeh with scores of 85.

James Eatmon from the Eastern NC Tour notched his first win of the season in the C flight posting 88. It was a three way tie for the runner up position as Tom Kubla, Rus Rilling, and Billy Lunsford all recorded scores of 90. Stephen Ellerbe and Dan Lewis both shot 91 as they ended the day T5.

The D flight saw Tim Willoughby make his season debut by pulling off a two stroke victory by shooting 86. Benton Smith, Kelly Brown, and Cal Rogers all carded 88 to collect the T2 position. Sola Edwards completed the top five list as she posted 91.

The Central Carolina Senior Tour returns to action on Thursday April 21st at Campbell University Keith Hills Golf Club with a 10am shotgun start. Do not miss out on this wonderful golf course. Sign up now.

Pinewood CC hosted the Central Carolina Senior Amateur Golf Tour on Thursday March 23rd. The weather was cloudy, but there was no precipitation.

It was a real dogfight in the Champ flight as Dean Parziale birdied the fourth hole to take the lead and held on to win by that single stroke posting a two over par 74. Jamie Branham was runner shooting 75, while Eli Villanueva, last week’s playoff winner placed third at 76. Grant Hoffman was fourth with an 81, and Joey Moffitt rounded out the top five carding 85.

In the A flight Howard Nemenz fell behind early, but rallied to shoot one under par 35 on the back nine posting 75 and a three shot win. Dan Anthony, David Beaver, and Ken Eichele all carded 79 finishing T2. Randy Bunn completed the top five as he shot 80.

A playoff was needed to produce a winner in the B flight as Gene Jones, Jerry Thorne, and Mark Robinson tied at 81. Gene dropped a birdie putt on the third playoff hole to secure the win. It was Gene’s first win of the season after consecutive third place finishes. Gus Alford just missed the playoff shooting 82 for fourth place. Mike Wallace and Dan Johnson tied for fifth place as they shot 85.

Patrick Warren got off to a slow start in the C flight but soon caught fire as he shot 87 for a seven stroke win. Ed McNally and Tom Kubla ended their rounds T2 with scores of 94. Tim Willoughby carded 96 taking fourth, while Rus Rilling rounds out the top five with a 99.

The D flight also required overtime as Kelly Brown and Neil Bleau both shot 93 and went back to the course to decide a winner. On the first playoff hole Kelly rolled in a putt for par. And when Neil’s par putt stopped just inches short of the hole it was a win for Kelly. Sola Edwards finished a single stroke out of the playoff posting 94, and Cal Rogers placed fourth with a score of 96.

The Central Tour takes a week off before returning to action at the fabulous Golf Club at Quail Ridge GC in Sanford on Thursday April 7th with a 10am shotgun start.

The Thursday, March 17th St. Patrick’s Day Central Carolina Amateur Golf Tour event took place in Raeford at the Bayonet at Puppy Creek golf course. The course was wet from the recent rain, but the weather was a nice day for golf.

In the Champ flight, overtime was required to determine a winner as Eli Villanueva and Dean Parziale matched scorecards with each shooting 74. The players returned to the course to decide who would have bragging rights for this event. Eli decided to end it quickly as he rolled in a birdie putt on the first hole that Dean was unable to match. Another tie occurred for third place as William Carter and Kevin McDougald posted 76. Craig Sturdivant finished fifth with a 77, while Steve Lassiter took home sixth place shooting 78.

Wilson Shelton used a birdie and an eagle to shoot 75 and win the A flight by four strokes. Ron Brady and Howard Nemenz finished their rounds T2 with identical scores of 79. No less than three players tied for fourth place as all carded 80’s. Chuck Taubersmith, Chuck Smith, and Randy Bunn accomplished that feat this week.

In the B flight, Eddie Jaggers and Sam Oglesby tied for first place after regulation posting scores of 81. Unfortunately Sam left before the playoff began so by default Eddie was declared the winner. Gene Jones and Jeff Patterson ended the day T3 shooting 82 apiece. Fifth place was a three way tie as Rob Andrews, Dick Kuehl, and Adam Hoeh all signed their scorecard with scores of 84.

No playoff was required in the C flight as Cliff Nance shot 82 to cruise to a six shot victory. Second place was a three way tie as Mike Groom, Greg Martin, and Tom Kubla all carded scores of 88. Mike James rounded out the top five scorers with an 89, while James Eatmon finished sixth shooting 91.

Stephen Ellerbe won the D flight by shooting a score of 85. Tour Director Sola Edwards posted 89 as the flight runner up. And Don Senior posted 104 to take home third place.

The Central Carolina Senior Amateur Golf Tour moves west to tackle a perennial favorite, Pinewood CC in Asheboro on Thursday March 24th with a 10am shotgun start. You do not want to miss this one so sign up now

Monday, March 14th.  The Central Carolina Amateur Golf Tour rolled into Holly Springs to tackle Bentwinds CC on Thursday March 14th. It was a cool morning but turned into a very pleasant day for golf.

In the Champ flight, Jamie Branham took first place with a score of 82 to outlast runner up Kevin McDougald’s round of 83. It was Jamie’s first win of the 2022 season.

Eighteen holes was not enough to determine a winner in the A flight today. Bill Berry, Wilson Shelton, and Randy Bunn all shot 83 and by Tour rule an on course playoff was required. The players proceeded to hole 10 to begin the playoff. Fifteen minutes later it was all over as Bill sunk a birdie putt to claim the victory.                               Frederick Myers placed fourth shooting 84. John East and Steve Denton rounded out the top five as they both carded 85.

The B flight saw Eddie Jaggers fire an excellent score of 75 to continue his fine play and take first place with a four shot victory. Larry Key was runner up shooting 79. Gene Jones, Jeff Patterson, and Ben Wheaton all shot scores of 86 ending the day T3. William Mock grabbed sixth place posting 88.

In the C flight, Cliff Nance made it 2 for 2 as he won for the second time in as many tournaments. His score of 87 was good enough for the two stroke win. Mike Groom claimed second place posting 89. James Eatmon from the Eastern NC Tour placed third with a 91. Tom Kubla shot 95 in fourth place, while Glenn Lewis rounds out the top five with a score of 97.

The D flight saw Sola Edwards beat back all challengers to win for the first time in the new season. But the outcome wasn’t decided until the last hole. A hole fraught with danger with water all around. Sola stayed cool, calm, and collected as she closed out her round of 96 to win by a single stroke. Jamie Hill from the Eastern NC Tour was runner up shooting 97. Charli Wicker posted 99 for a third place finish, while Neil Bleau was fourth scoring 102. Joan Wicker rounded out the top five with a 104.

The Tour moves on to Raeford to take on Bayonet at Puppy Creek on Thursday March 17th with a 10:00am shotgun start.

Thursday March 10th marked the opening day of the 2022 Central Carolina Senior Amateur Golf Tour. The fabulous MacGregor Downs CC hosted the event. The weather was quite cool and then a bit rainy making the golf even more challenging.

The weather didn’t seem to bother Champ flight winner Dean Parziale as he posted an excellent score of one under par 71 to win by 4 strokes. Eli Villanueva was the runner up with a round of 75. Paul Hundhammer placed third this day shooting 76.

More good golf and scores were displayed in the A flight as well. Eventual winner John East eaked out a single shot victory as he posted 75. Ken Eichele carded three birdies to post 76 in the runner up spot. Johnny Adams from the Eastern NC Tour was alone in third with a score of 77. Chuck Taubersmith and Bob Dail finished T4 as they had matching scores of 79. Meanwhile Randy Bunn and Frederick Myers also matched scorecards this time with 81 to complete their rounds T6.

In the B flight, Scott Hammond from the Eastern NC Tour scored a four shot victory shooting a nice 81. Willy Boyd was second with a round of 85. Eddie Jaggers and Sam Oglesby ended the round T3 with scores of 86, while Dick Kuehl rounded out the top five shooting 87. David Teague and Jay Wyatt posted identical scores of  88 finishing T6.

The C flight saw Cliff Nance pull off a three shot win with a round of 83. Runner up James Eatmon carded a score of 86. Ed McNally and Patrick Warren ended the day T3 scoring 88’s. Mike Groom rounded out the top five with a round of 89, while Dennis Arreola posted 91 in sixth place.

It wasn’t an easy day, but Stephen Ellerbe made it look easy in the D flight as he carded an excellent score of 93 to make it a seven stroke win. Jamie Hill from the Eastern NC Tour finished second with an even 100. Kelly Brown, Neil Bleau, and Eddie Watson from the Eastern Tour finished T3 as all three shot 101. Don Senior took sixth place scoring 102.

The Central Carolina Senior Golf Tour next takes on another excellent golf course at  Bentwinds CC in nearby Holly Springs on Monday March 14th. You don’t want to miss this gem, so sign up now.
